I have been working on a knowledge base of topics related to prepping and SHTF situations. It is geared towards making people more self sufficient with topics ranging from unarmed self defense to small space gardening to how to sew your own clothes. I'm one of those types of people who believe that we are going to go out with a whimper, not a bang, so there is a lot of content on how to do your own repairs, build your own stuff and live a more frugal lifestyle. In order to get access you need to send me a PM then I will give you a link and an access code. Once you're in you can find a directory list in each folder. You can download 1 file or everything there in one big zip file. You would need to have some basic book readers and, for 1 section, an MP3 player all which can be found for free. It's been up and running for over a year now and plenty of people have visited it and lived to tell the tale :-) If you're interested send me a PM and I will send you the link and crypto key.
This is a monthly posting
People shouldn’t confuse orderly preparation with panic.
Some of the people who have been processing stuff on the virus on the Board for over a month strike me as among the calmest, best prepared people around.
They happen to annoy people who think that the best way to deal with uncertainty and risk in life is to stick your head in the sand or some place else where the sun don’t shine.
Ping for later
Isn’t that the truth!!!
People arent inclined to do any of this because “preppers” cant lay off the “doomsday cult” like vibe.
Folks would gladly put stuff away for a rainy day, but they arent looking to participate in a thing that is often associated with folks that are assuming that the goal is to live off the grid in a shack out in the woods with some beef jerky in one hand and a gun in the other because “OMG SOCIETY IS FOOKED!!!!”, which unfortunately the whole “prepper lifestyle” people really cant seperate from just having extra on hand for one darn minute sometimes.
With out reading. I hope every one here as already prepared. Kinda late in the game but improvising is an American tradition.
I think you are defining this as rather “black and white whereas I think there is a lot of grey range between putting away for a rainy day and a shack out in the woods. Gov’t recommends 3 days to 2 weeks of emergency preps.
But I am not sure reason folks don’t prep is a disapproval of prepper lifestyle.
People are different, I personally get Christmas supplies (wrap, ribbon, lights, etc.), in first part of December because stores always run out, but some folks just don’t make it a priority...or maybe they don’t have the money to buy early?
People up in the Dakotas prep for winter, people in Florida prep for hurricanes...
Sadly, for many it likely will take folks getting burned with shortages before they get a clue.
CDC is all over the news about hand washing, yet some stores are running out of antibacterial soap and hand-sanitizer...When folks pay triple for sanitizer, they likely will not allow their household to run out again.
Just my 2 cents.
If people can't choose to accept an invitation to share information without thinking they are joining a Doomsday cult that sounds like a personal problem.
Let's take Prepping out of the equation completely and say you have a problem with your toilet. Your next door neighbor hears you moaning to one of your family members about your problem and offers you a book he has on toilet problems and how to fix them. You turn him down because he's a Steelers fan and you like the Eagles. Did you hurt him? No, his toilet works fine and he still has the book in case it breaks. The only person you hurt is yourself because you can't get over his "Steelers" vibe.
We're like the Steelers fan. We still have the books and our stuff works. We make the offer but aren't the least bit concerned if you choose not to accept it.
Sorry that everyone who you are inclined to label as a “prepper” talks in a way that makes you nervous.
Maybe instead of reading FR you ought to consider a nice restful vacation in Wuhan.
I hear it’s pretty quiet there. You might find it relaxing.
As for me, I think I’m going to order some fishing line and hooks.
I may not be able to afford a four wheel drive, but I think that I can afford the makings of a trot line. We have lots of lakes and lots of fish.
And a country boy can survive.
Another problem with preppers is the haughty self-righteous when people become skittish about their approach to selling them on it. The classic variation of this reply is what you get:
“Well that’s on you when you all die”
People are inclined to just say “go get lost”. Just not that politely.
“Sorry that everyone who you are inclined to label as a prepper talks in a way that makes you nervous.”
This is exactly what I meant in another post. You dont have the remote understanding of what I just said. It’s always this smarmy reply like that.
And btw, I always have had a well-stocked pantry, and can easily live off of all the stuff I bought over the years for months if I had to, so you arent some grand expert lecturing me on anything.
Like I said, whatever you do is up to you and I don’t care one way or another. I don’t mock anyone. I don’t argue with anyone. I make the same posting on the first of the month every month and the rest is up to whoever reads it.
I’m no expert, and am pretty late to the party. But I can take it and I can dish it out.
Mene mene tekel parsin.
And a country boy can survive.
Is Be Prepared still the Boy Scout Motto? Or does that mean you should always carry a tube of KY with you?
Those who’ve criticized and accused preppers as being ‘merchants of fear porn’ should have the guts to ask those in Italy what they think about prepping now. They won’t because they’ll hide since they’re gutless mouths.
Prepping goes back generations. People canned summer veggies, had a root cellar, stacked firewood, put a few coins in the floorboards, had household hints, whatever.
I’ve always stocked up when stuff was on sale and I had a coupon, and stuck to stuff I was going to eventually buy anyway.
Prepper ping.

Random Thoughts:
I have to wonder if any of the non-preppers out there attack Just-in-Time inventory systems used these days...since they do the same in their lives.
I also wonder if any of the non-preppers out there have a 401k, or did they decide that they’d only get by with what government will give them. After all, what is a 401k?
I also wonder if any of the non-preppers would evacuate or otherwise prepare if told a hurricane is coming, or a blizzard.
And keep in mind that some form of storm is coming, but unlike other predictions, this one will hit - and the severity of the storm will only be known during the storm. The storm, of course, is the shutdown of economic activity in China, and much of the rest of Asia
Lots of people complain about losing money in 2008 crash, when the writing was on the wall regarding the horrible loans (it wasn’t a secret). Did people regret not ‘preparing’ for that downturn by getting out of the market? Will similar people regret not ‘preparing’ for this downturn when everyone knew this storm was coming for weeks, prior to the idiots in top management figuring it out a week ago? Will people regret not preparing for the ‘new normal’ as the stock markets continue to adjust to this ‘new normal’...whatever that ends up being?
Just some thoughts here.
Just Boy Scouts in texas.
Precisely.
