Dogs may be mans best friend, but lets not forget that the faithful fetching stick is a dogs other best friend.
So when 59-year-old Andrew Taylor noticed that there was a lack of good sticks at his local park, he decided to take matters into his own hands.
The dad from Kaiapoi, New Zealand had been chopping off excess branches from some trees in his yard when he decided to make them into a Stick Library for all the local pups.
After chopping up the branches into several dozen conveniently-sized pieces, he put them into a hand-crafted box emblazoned with the words Stick Library: Please Return and brought it to the park.
Since Taylor and his daughter hosted a small neighborhood inauguration party for the Stick Library, more than 50 dogs and their owners have enjoyed a game of fetch with the sticks.
As people started to arrive, there was a disbelief of how simple the idea was, but its one of those ideas no one had thought of, said Taylors daughter Tayla Reece. All the dog owners appreciate it, as they all have experienced the good stick search, which isnt always fruitful. Its an idea that just makes sense to them.
Good for Andrew Taylor and his simple old-fashioned common sense fun.
Where I live, the dog population seems to like tennis balls. Meanwhile near the tennis courts there seems to be an abundance of discarded tennis balls that escaped the court area and are just laying around waiting to be found. Suggestion: round up the left over tennis balls and present them to the dogs. And maybe wash and disinfectant the tennis balls every so often. Dog saliva dont you know.
Thats good work - healing the world. Maybe that act will keep him out of hell
Yeah but this will lead to stick thieves, arsonists starting the sticks on fire and then? Innocent trees will be losing life giving branches to refill the stick library. Itll be anarchy!!
Only Jesus Christ can keep a person out of hell.
Still, this was a nice thing for this guy to do.
Kids like to play with Log(TM) too!
Some child will pick up one of the sticks, point it at another and say bang.
And this will be done away with
I like it. But I usually see owners throwing tennis balls to the dogs in the park.
It's better than bad - it's good.
I'm just waiting for someone to claim her "emotional support" Maltese has a maple allergy and sue.
If he tries that in Corruptifornia, they’ll tax the branches and fine him for distributing items without a permit.
And that’ll be just the start.
When my dog gets a stick he generally shreds it. He’s a Golden Retriever but doesn’t know the meaning of retrieve.
this is a pretty sticky subject-
Guy could make a fortune selling sticks at dog parks- I mean why not? People got rich selling water
It’s better than bad, it’s good!
Cute. Good clean fun.
What a positive thing to do. Good job, sir!
Doesn't work too well with cats, though - I eventually realized I was the one doing the fetching....
