CDC 'took FOUR DAYS to test coronavirus patient with unknown origin' because she 'didn't fit infection criteria' - as dozens of staff at the California hospital are ordered to isolate and experts fear the disease could explode quickly like it did in Italy

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) took four days to test a woman with the first confirmed case of coronavirus where the origin of the disease is unknown because she hadn't traveled abroad or been exposed to an infected patient as experts warn the deadly virus could spread quickly in the US like it did in Italy.

The woman, who is a resident of Solano County, which is about 35 miles outside of Sacramento, was admitted into UC Davis Medical Center on February 19.

But questions are now being asked over the CDC's handling of the case after an email from medical center officials to employees revealed that the CDC took four days to test the patient for the deadly disease despite requests from staff at the center.

The leaked memo also suggested medical center staff may have been unnecessarily put at risk after dozens were told to go into isolation and watch for symptoms. According to the email, the CDC didn't test the patient, who has not been identified, for coronavirus until February 23.

It has also been revealed that experts like Dr Adrian Hyzler, the chief medical officer for Healix International, believe the virus could spread in the US overnight like it did in Italy.

'It spreads very rapidly because of the ease with which you can pass on this virus through respiratory droplets and surface spread,' Hyzler told The Daily Beast.

'There is every possibility that this could happen in the US,' Hyzler said, referring to the outbreaks in Iran and Italy.

Hyzler then pointed to a place like New York City where the coronavirus 'would spread very rapidly on a crowded subway or metro system'.

That is the truth and the ever distracted and duped need to wake up.

The dingbat running CDC needs to be fired

Excuse me, CDC leadership is chosen not for their competence, but rather for their diversity. As you know diversity is our strength, especially in the face of a raging pandemic. Thank you, and good night.

this influenza

The fact that you call a COVID-19 "influenza" discredits pretty any opinion you express about this coronavirus outbreak. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. Also, your claim that Northern Italy, Tehran and Seoul are "in the 40's" only applies at night, when people are indoors where it is much warmer. During the day when people are outside, they are currently mid 50's. And just as Singapore and Hong Kong have air conditioning, Seoul, Tehran and Italy have heat.

Some are Dems, or NeverTrumpers (but I repeat myself) trying to encourage a US pandemic in the hopes they can get rid of Trump.

I’m not so sure you are wrong about the source of some of the attempts at suppression.

There is certainly nothing wrong with posting that article, and neither the article or the poster were “fear-mongering”.

This is potentially a huge problem, and reasonable people are concerned. Comparing it to the flu is getting to be very old.

“The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) took four days to test a woman...”

Well, how can the disease spread if the vectors are isolated. And Rod Rosenstein’s sister wants to lecture the Trump administration on how to handle the virus.

So apparently there are potentially thousands of people walking around this country with corona not knowing they have it because we supposedly have horrible testing capabilities. If true, those people are infecting more people every day which should be creating exponentially huge infection rates.
Not sure what the incubation period is with this but we should know fairly soon just how overhyed or real this all is.

If 2 weeks from today we are talking about a number that is still a fraction of the flu then my vote goes squarely in the overhype column.

You fear mongers

Is it possible for you to convince Wall street that fear alone is driving their pessimistic profit projections related to collapsing Chinese manufacturing capabilities? BTW, I’m lucky I got out of the market three weeks ago and I hope others weren’t influenced by the dopes who intentionally suggest this novel coronavirus is the flu.

Just luck mostly, but I did see this virus as a threat early on, and coupled with an overpriced market with an over reliance for Chinese-made, American imports, it was the right time. It’s going to be a painful realization for many that globalization & free trade is a suicide pact for US. DJT has all the right remedies if the Rs stand behind him. We shall see.

_______________

You, my man, are going to have some great "get back in" opportunities a few weeks/months down the road.

Back in 1987 my wife and I put a big sell order in to our broker early on Oct. 19th, Friday morning. He didn't place the sells until much later in the day, and we lost a shitload of money because of it.

We were visiting my wife's brother and sister on Martha's Vineyard. Black Monday, October 22nd 1987 was gross for us.

Damn ..... that was one sh*tty vacation.

Turns out back then the market rebounded rather quickly, and we would have been okay if we had done absolutely nothing. Oh well.

We were younger then (I was 40), and it was a really dark time.

****

I tend to think this virus hubbub will come and go .............. and after all has settled down, some people (like you) can make the best of it.

Good luck and regards from Pittsburgh.

Saw similar complaints with ebola and SARS outbreaks.

So far, after a couple full months, there appears to be under 100K coronavirus cases world-wide....the average Flu season sees about 30 million Americans getting the Flu despite ready access to and liberal use of vaccines....

Make of it as you will....

So did the virus escape Travis AFB which is very close by?

There is a small portion of military that are married to foreign people, take for instant some that might of been stationed on bases in South Korea, Guam, South Vietnam, Japan etc. and while they married foreigners and having said that many communities outside of military bases have slightly higher amount of foreigners, and those foreigners some times like to go back to their original country once in a while like a week or so every year for vacation and/or to see their parents etc , the Coronavirus could of spread through one of those people that have just came back from seeing their parents in some Asian foreign country.

CDC has been using funds for social research programs instead of preparing, they need to be gutted. Newsom, Pelosi, waters schitt and the rest of the cal rats need to be held responsible for their neglect of the homeless and the inevitable corona virus spread when it does come
