Continuation of Coronavirus live Thread. 4.
Theyre taking it serious over here. A little closer to home . . . a doctor in Erlangen was confirmed with the virus (hes in good shape) and 51 people that he was in contact with have been notified for testing. The doctor was attending a symposium in Munich where he came in contact with an Italian (how many others were in contact with the Italian is not known). The doctor is being treated in the University Clinic in Erlangen where he works. There is also a second case of a man in Nurnberg who was in Baden-Wurttemburg on business (no details available). Hes being treated in Karlsruhe.
Well, that was encouraging. /s
Do these people know how they sound?
Frankly, we’re too marginal to gamble on the market so couldn’t care less if it tanks or not. It’s all ebb and tide anyway. What goes up must come down. Folks are always in a panic over the market. It’s higher than it’s ever been but they’re all running around thinking the sky is falling even on this thread.
JUST IN: Coronavirus cases at military base north of Paris
The truth is that it's a DANGEROUS virus to our healthcare system. Of those who get it so far up to 20% require some type of hospitalization or health treatment. If it spreads in large numbers, like the flu, our healthcare system would break down. There's not enough hospitals. That's exactly why China was building emergency hospitals.
True.
I worry about day to day stuff.
We try to have a cpl weeks of food/water over and above our immediate needs. We’ve done that for years since Katrina. We’ve just upped it to 6w with this uncertainty. Really, everyone should have 6w extras if they can afford it. And it isn’t a ‘run out and get 6w extra food right now’ thing. We’ve been working on this over 2 paychecks now. The weirdness in China at the end of January prompted a bit of extra buying and we’ve done a bit more the past cpl of weeks.
We will likely cycle through what we have and replace what we use trying to keep the extras on hand long term now.
I suspect weirdness here in Oct/Nov anyways.
The people who live literally hand to mouth via drive thru, delivery and restaurant eating worry me. Especially the ones who could afford easily to stock up but don’t, for whatever reason. Likely normalcy bias.

New York City says it is unable to reliably test for coronavirus: “The kits that were sent to us have demonstrated performance issues and cannot be relied upon to provide an accurate result” - ProPublica
I know! First time for me but it didn't last long...it's over now.
Listening to Pence he’s NOT saying “it’s no worse than the flu”. He is taking it seriously as is the US government. Rush has completely minimized it and done a disservice. He’s convinced many that taking it seriously is tantamount to being a member of the leftist cabal.
BREAKING: England reports 1 new case of coronavirus in UK’s first known instance of human-to-human transmission
I was at the doc’s yesterday and pharmacy today for a routine prescription refill, and I feel nad for all of them working in such an environment of uncertainty.
I’ve actually wondered if Rush was on our side sometimes.
I still remember him describing Rubio as a ‘full throated conservative’ back in ‘16.
Do you think it could be because of the markets? I think a lot of people stand to lose a fortune. I dont have enough in it to do us much harm, so Im leaving it put.
Prenatal testing for Down Syndrome is available. Iceland permits a positive Down result as justification for abortion. It's not hard to figure out the statistics.

MENAFN - Emirates News Agency (WAM)) ABU DHABI, 28th February 2020 (WAM) - In collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Prevention, the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi, DoH-AD, has taken all necessary measures to ensure the good health and safety of guests at two hotels, presumed to be contacts of two Italian nationals who tested positive for novel Coronavirus disease, COVID-19.
The DoH-AD applied precautionary quarantine in two hotels in Yas Island, while other contacts were confined to home quarantine to undergo medical investigations and periodic testing for 14 days.
The two Italian patients are currently receiving necessary medical care and they are under continuous observation.
If 1 in 4 tests worked, then that’s better odds than picking lint from their belly buttons. How hard is taking passengers’ temps? How hard is it to ask a couple of questions. Yeah, we know, ‘cause that’d make someone get off their duff and do their job.
How about his teammates being quarantined. How about the other teams he played against in the past few weeks? Athletes are so clean and don’t sweat on everything or toss their dirty towels all over.
S. KOREA new numbers? 315 new cases, total 2337
