Man, that’s some nasty looking water they rescued those guys from. I’d have to go take a long shower after wading through that mess.

We have a 6” main for our irrigation system - ditch fed. Main shut-off failed and water was shooting up over 100’.

Remember that Houston is a Sanctuary City run by a mayor and city council that is a pathetic mob of morons. Safe bet that the water main was breached by a Dreamer.

I’d hate to own the meter adjacent to the pipe burst. Next month’s water bill....$387.00.00

We had some contractors who were testing the chemical fire suppression system in a few weeks back.

They set it off.

A server room, engineering space, and a couple of big UPS battery units got it.

Everything electronic being replaced if not already.

Back in the 80s, my dad was on a pipeline job just south of Charlotte NC proper.

Someone hit an unknown water main. It was a respectable little geyser. 20 something size line.

City engineers couldn’t find it documented on any plans. A few hours later they got it shut off.

Therewas an ordnance factory in the area up until a little past WWII.

It's the main from the east side water treatment facility. It serves just under 50% of the water to Houston.

Tree roots don't have brains; they don't know what's in the pipe unless it's leaking, and then the root(s) will invade the leaking pipe thru the failed male/female joint, hole or crack.

Otherwise, roots grow around the pipe, thinking it's a simple obstruction, like a rock or boulder. That's a standard Water Co excuse that the tree caused it. Ditto for sewage pipes.

In my 35+yrs in the horticulture/farming/nursery/botany/entomology industries/business, I’ve seen 36”, 42” & 54” water mains, but never a 96” main. As I said before, that’s a big damned pipe.

Most of the folks in Montrose should be ok. A lot of them are light in the loafers.

Well, in this particular case it was the tree root.

Both times it broke during heavy winds, first time during a hurricane! Hurricane Dennis in 2005, and later an unnamed storm.

The tree rocked back and forth, the root raising and bending the 6 inch PVC pipe until it cracked.

The work crews just cut out the broken section then glued another short piece into the line.

Asked the second crew why they didn’t cut down the tree, after telling them of the first time a few years earlier, the replied, “That’s not our job.”.....................
