Todays CG from The Arkansas Gazette. Everyone by now should recognize the author's first name, then it's off to the final lap of the Daytona 500.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for todays Cryptogram.
If you're just starting out on these, be patient, as you'll be proficient in no time.
If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hals Helper below:
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.
I never heard of the author, until now.
A couple of cool announcements.

Wow, I lucked out on the first word and managed to pick my way through pretty quickly. I also have never heard of this author.
Me neither. I haven’t even heard any stories about him.
The first two words plus the author’s first name did it for me.
Same here. Guessed at first word and double letter in second word gave me a fine start.
Same here. I did google the author’s name after I guessed it.
That was a tough one.
Doesn’t that fall into the ‘whose ox is being gored’ category?
It all depends on whose obit it is, sometimes one looks better on paper than anything they may have said????
As to the author, I definitely recognize all THREE names, just not in that particular arrangement.. <: <: <:
3 min in the car, get the 2nd word.

Thought of this man.
I must need more coffee. 10 minutes today.
Well played! LOL
