Went to see Call of the Wild last night. I'd like to tell you that it was a great movie, or even a movie worth seeing.
I can't. In fact, at best it's very mediocre.
From the opening you can tell that Fido is a computer generated figure, and that fact wouldn't bother me, if it gave you a Disney Like affinity for the pooch...but it doesn't.
I'm not going to go into any details, only to tell you that if you need a movie to watch, there are plenty at the moment worth seeing more than this one. 1917, Parasite or better yet, stay home and watch Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, (De Caprio and "Little Wise Guy" Brad Pitt are great), or Ford and Ferrari.
In short, if you're a Ford, Harrison fan, (I'm less so, since his recent bashing of our president), this will probably be a disappointment, as he's arthritic in the part, and there were several times when I thought Buck was a lot smarter than he was.
In fact, maybe someone else can weigh on this. I watched Ford describing the movie recently. Either he was drunk or the guy is showing some early signs of dementia. Someone needs to pull his FAA license.
Give me the Clark Gable and Loretta Young version, that you can watch over and over, as this show's ending is a downer.
Just the previews of an old man doing physical things that a 30 year old would be hardpressed to do made it unbelievable.

Perhaps because we saw the real frames, colorized in the recent documentary ( can’t think of the name) of War World 1......
.....we were less than exuberant for 1917 ......it was a good movie.......just good, imo

Harrison Desoto is dead to me.
That movie was kind of like flat soda pop. There was something missing from it. I think it was that they never really explored any characters...especially the two main characters. You could have stuck any of the soldiers in that role and the movie would have been exactly the same. I get it that it was a "one shot" gimmick perspective but that didn't leave any room at all to make me care about anyone in the movie.
I loved the book when I was a boy. Then I found out Jack London was a commie and my enchantment faded fast.
It could still make an interesting movie, but it sounds like a fail.
The move was about the dog...Harrison Ford was only in the move maybe half if it...
Might better get it at Red Box in a month..if at all

I recommend The Scarlet and the Black, a fine classic, nonfiction movie. I watched it last night with my older children, who were riveted.
I’m done with modern Hollywood and their stinking garbage.
You know, viewed objectively, the Jack London novel itself wasn’t a great piece of work. It may have been “edgy” for its time, but it has not worn well with age.

I went to be entertained and I was entertained. At home I was working on a problem and needed some diversion. This was it. I go to the movies every 4-5 years. I wanted to see the movie and so the CGI dog while obvious wasn’t that big of annoyance. They cast Harrison Ford to be a draw, well he wasn’t to me and they could have cast a dozen other people to handle his light load of acting but he did okay. The plot was a stretch but it’s light entertainment. I wasn’t disappointed but that’s hardly a recommendation. YMMV a lot

I was very excited about this movie when I saw the preview, and I told my children I wanted to take them to see it. They already knew that The Call of the Wild is one of my favorite books. In fact, my boy said: I know you want to see The Call of the Wild! I replied: "Yes, I do."
However, Harrison Ford's stupid remarks dispelled any interest I had in seeing him on the screen, especially in one of my favorite tales. I love intelligence; it's the crux of this story, and it would be hard for me to imagine intelligence in a man like Ford.
As I recall, the old Clark Gable/Loretta Young flick had essentially nothing to do with Jack London's book. It's been many years, but about all I remember is Loretta taking a bath and none whatsoever of the depth and meaning of the novel. I always tucked it away in the discard folder along with Greer Garson's unintentional-lampoon of Pride and Prejudice, in which Lady Catherine de Bourgh (of all people!) was boringly sanitized into a sweet old lady who just wanted what was best for her dear nephew!
I didn't even bother to witness the recent re-make of The Scarlet Letter.
And there has never been a respectable filming of Moby Dick.
I have no desire to see my favorite works of fiction degraded.
I'll read The Call of the Wild aloud to my children instead.

My wife and I decided on our first “movie date” in 31 years. We had a choice between Call of the Wild and the “Justice Thomas in his own words” movie Equal Justice. We chose the latter. It is a very interesting portrayal of a remarkable man’s life. It also succeeded in making us hate democrats even more than we do (if that is possible). I felt good after watching that movie.
