Enjoy all you who are 60 and older.
Everybody Plays the Fool. The Main Ingredient
Not 60 yet, but thanks—this was a good one.
Always liked this tune! I played it on the AM radio station I worked at in college and while we’d normally listen to the “air monitor” on songs like this I’d always switch the control room speaker over to Program so I could hear it in full Hi-Fi quality. It’s a very well produced record, and the electric piano “hook” at the intro was crafted especially for AM radio, as those frequencies punched right through the typical car radio speaker or transistor portable. It was all about the midrange baby!
Brandy was fun: https://www.google.com/search?q=brandy+looking+glass&oq=brandy+looking+glass&aqs=chrome..69i57.9489j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Couldn’t stand Muskrat Love. I somehow have an inexplicable appreciation for this, however: https://www.google.com/search?q=i+am+woman&oq=i+am+woman&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i64l3.12109j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
What a great song that was.
Was poking around after I posted on this thread and found this fun cover by “Toploader”
They are recognised most of all for their cover of King Harvest’s US hit “Dancing in the Moonlight” written by Sherman Kelly, which became a global hit for the band.

I remember that one!
Here’s a song that kind of defined the 70s music scene for me:

My first 45 was ‘Ride, Captain, Ride’ by Blues Image in 1970 when I was 10 years old.
Another One Hit Wonder, I believe?

I just googled Canned Ham. I can’t believe I’ve never heard it before! Thanks! Hope your radio show is a great success
Well, that happened in the mid-late 70s with Disco...which sucks, by the way. Although like probably everyone I have my own few disco favs that I’d spare the bulldozer on.
A couple more to my point about being aimed at AM radio listeners - Midnight Train to Georgia by Gladys Knight and the Pips and Let’s Stay Together by Al Green. Both have strong bass lines but that’s mostly lost when strained thru the 6 by 9” speaker in the dashboard. But it comes through as a really strong beat and you’d turn the tone knob back and think you had a real hi-fi thing going! Meanwhile the rhythm and vocals were punching right through.
That’s actually a pretty good playlist - “King Tut” omg...!
I thought since we are on the subject of moonlight, you and others on this thread might enjoy this one too...

Starbuck: Moonlight Feels Right
This one brings me right back too...:)
The story around this song is pretty cool too...the version that hit the airwaves was a one-pass recording...the xylophone player hit it so spot on that they just called it a wrap on it, apparently.
Pretty amazing! I agree with many of you-I think the Seventies had the best music ever...:)
Brandy (You’re A Fine Girl)!
Another 45 I purchased back in the day. *HEART*
Another good one. I was on a road trip when it came out, and it always reminds me of that.
Mid-50’s here, and always liked this song. :-)
Sylvia had been part of the duet "Sylvia And Mickey" two decades earlier. An act which had also produced just one hit - the song Love Is Strange in 1956 which was later featured in the film Dirty Dancing.
I put it right up there with “Midnite at the Oasis”.
Actually, the Brothers Johnson had four top 30 hits in the US, including Strawberry Letter 23. Still an incredible song.
LOLOMG! I always thought they were saying “TONIGHT feels right” No wonder I could never find the record!!
