Rancid oils and oily food like peanut butter should just taste bad but react no differently. The oils in the foods, and even the bottle kinds gets oxidized and is termed rancid, because of the taste.

Nexium or Prilosec will keep you from overproducing acid, but as was said above you need to refrain from eating anything for at least 2 hours before laying down.

I had acid reflux for many years, same type symptoms as you describe. Recent trip to the doctor revealed a hiatal hernia. (Part of the stomach is above the diaphragm, allowing acid to pass up the esophagus easily.)

Peanuts are grown below ground. It is usually mildew that causes people to have allergic reaction.

I’m 66 and feel great. I’ve not been on prescription drugs since - well, as far back as I can remember.

My back is a bit sore still from falling backwwards down a flight of stairs three weeks ago, but I can haul wood and shovel dirt.

I also rarely eat processed food and try to stay moderately in shape.

Apparently I’m even more blessed than I realize. And yes, I really do give God the glory for it. In fact, my wife has two miraculous healings from prayer.

Apologies, Dennis Miller’s obscure references age better than mine. :-)

One of my favorite BBT episodes, Sheldon decided he needed a virtual presence, and “escorted” Leonard to work while educating him about the more than 50 sphincters in the human body, one of which was referenced in the article, the lower esophageal sphincter.

Acid reflux. Don’t eat for four hours before bedtime. Sit up instead of laying down so the ick can’t travel through your esophagus.

When I get heartburn, I sip on some water with apple cider vinegar in it and stevia.

It raises the acidity in the stomach which causes the valve to close properly, thus ending the heartburn.
Takes a few minutes, but it seems to work really well for me.

Stop eating raw foods for awhile.

Eat only foods you prepare yourself and cook thoroughly. Eat only meats that are well done. No cold cuts.

Don’t eat greasy or acidic foods. For example, I love potato chips, but they don’t love me. I can’t drink orange juice.Tomato sauce gives me agida.

Eat bland foods. You might feel better.

Two things worked for my husband who had your symptoms:

Eat dinner several hours before bedtime. No snacking afterward.

Elevate the head of your mattress with one or two layers of 2x4’s running the width. Gravity seems to help. Home Depot will cut to size.

Also, consuming too much liquid of any kind during a meal can dilute (make less effective) the digestive enzymes that quickly digest the food you eat.

Take the 30 day Carnivore Diet challenge. Then, go back to your regular diet, adding one new item at time and wait about an hour and see how you react. You will know which item adversely affects you. Don’t eat that item again.

Also, keep Tums around. They work great! (They neutralize the acid)

95% of people with your symptoms are overeating.

I have very sensitive olfactory glands or acute ability to smell. I am sure that it has saved me many times from rancid foods.

If it is after eating oily food it might be your gall bladder.

My mom has this problem so I cook low fat when she is coming for dinner.

The other problem could be acid reflux, not fun but not hard to solve now days. Try raising the head of your bed if it comes only in the night. That will help keep the little flap, (sorry brain fade, I can not remember what it is called) close and keep the stomach acid from giving you trouble.

In either case go see your doctor

Sounds more like food allergies than code date problems. Or poor storage. With Florida’s humidity mold can happen anywhere any time.

You didn’t mention where you got your medical degree from. I suspect it is probably from the same school my mother in-law graduated. Do your self a favor and get a 2nd opinion from a, shall we say, real doctor. My mother in-law was near death from a bowel obstruction she self diagnosed as food poisoning.

*** “When I get heartburn, I sip on some water with apple cider vinegar in it and stevia” ***

I do that as well... Another hack is I get cheap baby Dill Pickles dump out the juice and replace it with unpasteurized Apple Cider Vinegar (Braggs), let that sit in the fridge for a couple of days and then eat a couple of pickles prior to bed time to get that extra acid and some good gut pro-biotics/pre-biotics too.

Yeah, I was going to say this sounds more like acid reflux than food going “rancid”. Packaged, processed foods usually take waaaaaaay longer than the “sell by” date to actually go bad.
