Bring Out Your Dead

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

Read this from today's NY Times before you begin celebrating. More than half of China is under quarantine (750 million).

Residential lockdowns of varying strictness — from checkpoints at building entrances to hard limits on going outdoors — now cover at least 760 million people in China, or more than half the country’s population, according to a New York Times analysis of government announcements in provinces and major cities. Many of these people live far from the city of Wuhan, where the virus was first reported and which the government sealed off last month.

By the way, I was looking at one of the ship location web pages. If you go to the major ports off of China, you see hundreds of freighters, just sitting there, waiting.

No surprise for us, but it will be very eye-opening as Americans and others start to learn the hard way just what is inside of those containers (or, more specifically, what should be inside of those containers).
