There are currently 69,036 confirmed cases worldwide, including 1,666 fatalities.
I’d have to go contrarian on that. First remember that 50% of their workforce are paper-pushers, 90% now working from home by order of CCP. That leaves factories. What did China do to Gilead? stole their IP and started the presses on vaccine manufacturing. And they will do the same with any other vaccine we offer. China’s going to protect the Party uppity-ups, and then factory by factory by priority.
Their current chaos will cause some hickups, sure. But the citizens think the party is their parent and if their parent tells them you will work 19 hours a day, they will do it for fear of being labeled a traitor to the party. Just like the nurses in Wuhan. China also has millions of slave laborers in reserve. Cruel but true. China knows the more time they take, the more business they’ll lose. They’ll move entire town populations if they have to = because they can.
So, I don’t foresee dark ages and gloomy times for the USA as long as we don’t get seeded with this virus. China’s going to need food and lots of it with that swine fever and bird flu thing they got going on. Great for our farmers. And I’d guess we’ll quick-fund startups focusing on supply-interruption essentials we just realized we can’t live without. Our biggest fight will be with envirowackos. This same thing is being discussed by the EU also.
Don’t worry. Trump will still be considered a quick thinker and fast on his feet to act to protect America’s citizens from any threat. Any of these other clowns would still be conferencing and waiting for a return call from the CCP and our people would still be stranded there. Trump got planes in and he got planes out and set border restrictions. And now he’s got teams working on logistics. We’re lucky to have him. And if the other politicians were honest, they’d admit that right about now, too, don’t you think?.
this sounds like one could keep their shoes and coat outside for half and hour and then it’d be ok to bring it back in?
4:20 pm: Two Chicago patients released from home isolation
Two people in Chicago who were infected with the virus were released from home isolation on Friday, following U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance.
The woman, a Chicago resident in her 60s who had visited Wuhan, China, was the first confirmed Illinois case of the virus on Jan. 24. Her husband, also in his 60s, was the second confirmed Illinois case and first human-to-human transmission in the U.S. on Jan. 30.
We believe both patients can now safely return to their regular activities, including work, without restrictions, said the Chicago Department of Public Healths Dr. Allison Arwady.

1:30 pm: Xi started fighting virus earlier than previously known, newly published speech shows
Chinese President Xi Jinping issued internal orders regarding the virus outbreak roughly two weeks before his first public statements on the epidemic, according to a newly published speech on Saturday in the Qiushi Journal, the Communist Partys top publication.
The speech indicates that Xi started giving orders about the outbreak as early as Jan. 7. His first public instructions on the epidemic was Jan. 20, in which he provided brief instructions on the virus.
Chinas release of the speech is an apparent effort to mitigate public anger over the handling of the outbreak, and show that Xi has led

Barnard takes heat for quarantine of 13 students in coronavirus scare
Barnard College placed 13 students returning from China in voluntary quarantine over coronavirus concerns and then threatened at least one with a conduct charge because she didnt answer the door for a meal delivery.
I am helpless, angry, and this is unacceptable, student Sylvia Su posted in a Facebook message describing her quarantine. My parents paid my tuition for me to study, make friends, and to see another world where I can be a freer, more unique individual...
Qin questioned how the quarantines were handled, saying some students had already been back on campus for at least a week before they were asked to isolate and they were placed in a suite rather than individual rooms. She said the campus did not track their contacts before the quarantine.
I felt like the job (was) not completely done, she said.
Barnard said students were in a suite for only one night. All 13 students are out of quarantine now and none showed any symptoms, the school said.

Of course we’re lucky to have him. As I said, he’s already done more sooner than another president would have.
But we are still allowing flights to the US from China and I think it is unlikely that it doesn’t gather strength here in the US. There is likely already more vulnerability here than we have announced.
how many chinese nationals do you think will be on any flight to America? because they’re not getting off.
**
Any U.S. citizen returning to the U.S. who has been in Hubei Province in the previous 14 days will be subject to up to 14 days of mandatory quarantine.
Any U.S. citizen returning to the U.S. who has been in the rest of mainland China within the previous 14 days will undergo proactive entry health screening at a select number of ports of entry and up to 14 days of monitored self-quarantine.
Foreign nationals, other than immediate family of U.S. citizens and permanent residents, who have traveled to China within the last 14 days will be denied entry into the U.S. for this time. Once again, these actions will become effective at 5 PM EST, Sunday, February 2.
The Department of Homeland Security announced it would begin...rerouting Americans who have recently been to China to one of the seven airports — John F. Kennedy in New York, Atlanta, Chicago O’Hare, San Francisco, Seattle-Tacoma, Los Angeles and Honolulu — where the CDC will conduct health screenings.
Shoes would probably be a “hard surface” where a virus lasts longer. Also - those studies were based on the “typical” flu. (It may have been H1N1?) And iirc that flu virus would be viable up to 24 hours on a hard surface.
This Wuhan virus they say might last 5 days or longer on a hard surface - so perhaps you need to go several hours outside? And it would need to be dry.
Of course if it is real bad, you would limit your trips outside. Perhaps keep a pair of boots, coveralls, etc. outside to just put on when you leave. And just treat them as contaminated. Put your gloves, mask and goggles on first. Or - have a bucket of bleach water to toss the coveralls in and another to clean your boots off with. After the coveralls have soaked for 10 mins, put them in a plastic bag, dump in the washing machine, and take the bag outside again?
The virus can get into sores and cuts in the skin, but otherwise, the “typical” flu virus only lasts 5 to 10 minutes(?) on the skin due to enzymes that destroy the outer shell. (Shell isn’t the right term, I forget what it is.)
I don’t know. I used to work at hazardous waste sites. It takes a lot of effort to make sure you’re not taking anything nasty out of the site. Lots of disposables. Which is okay when the client is getting charged for everything.
Not so easy when it is just your family, and you only have a few boxes of N95 masks and a few Tyvek suits at $20 a piece.
Right. And plenty of loopholes right there.
Apparently at least 14 days when an infected and infectious person can be asymptomatic.
Self-quarantine by definition isn’t enforced.
What about others in the household or other contact are out and about if the person in quarantine is indeed infected?
The virus apparently can survive over a week on dry surfaces. How about that?
How about those who were on the plane with anyone infected?
Etc. Etc.
Of course, for everyone’s sake I hope it doesn’t take root here, but there are plenty of experts projecting otherwise, as well as reports of our current situation being underreported.

Self-quarantine is ‘monitored’. But you know, just like Wuhan, a neighbor sees a quarantine out and they’ll get reported. Get reported, get a mandatory order with marshalls
14 days - possible reinfection - that is, the person was either mild or asymptomatic in the hospital, then was reinfected probably by a nurse. You’re much more likely to be symptomatic after 5 days.
surfaces: Don’t lick any escalator rails and you should be good.
re: planes - screening before you get on, while in flight and by CDC after you get off. Stews are required by law to report anyone they notice as sick so there’s no hiding. And if you come off the plane sick? mandy q 4 u.
underreporting: I doubt it. Any Chinese nationals that arrived prior to the Feb 2 restriction hit 14 days tomorrow or are long past it.
9Year, you have a lot of concerns as do we all, but we’re not going to board people up in their homes. We have to trust our fellow man to try to do the right thing.
So....are you cool with quarantine orders or are you asking for a police state? Think about that.
Baloney. What’s your angle here?
Did you see that article that said WinnieThePooh Xi was issuing orders about the CV by Jan 9?
How come we didn’t know about it then instead of Jan 23? Xi’s trying to save face with his people but he’s got some ‘splainin’ to do to America.
“We have to trust our fellow man to try to do the right thing.”
Because that has worked so well in the past. /s - sort of.
