Data reveal that no atoll lost land area, 88.6% of islands were either stable or increased in area, and only 11.4% of islands contracted. The Pacific Atolls are not being inundated because the sea level is rising much less than was thought. This says that the Pacific Ocean level over recent decades has actually been dropping, super slowly, at the rate of 0.08 inches per century. There are some locations around the Pacific Rim where coastal land is subsiding but that has nothing to do with the ocean level itself.
