On Saturday, a man in a van drove into a tent with Trump campaign volunteers in it who were registering people to vote. The incident took place in a Walmart parking lot in Jacksonville, Florida. Fortunately, the people in the tent were able to jump out of the way in time. But the man allegedly got out of the vehicle and gave the finger to the volunteers before he sped away and he videoed at least part of the incident.
That last action seemed to make it very clear that it wasn’t an accident and that it was a targeted attack.
The man allegedly behind the attack, 27 year old Gregory Timm, was later arrested and he was charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a person over 65 years old, criminal mischief and driving without a license.
Police have now talked with the man and confirmed it was a deliberate attack, according to the police. Timm allegedly said he didn’t like President Donald Trump and that was part of the reason he ran over the tent.

According to JSO investigators who tracked him down, Timm admitted to purposefully driving into the tent because “someone had to take a stand.”
Timm told investigators he saw the registration tent after he went to pick up food and cigarettes and a nearby Walmart, according to JSO.
He then showed investigators a video he recorded while driving towards the tent, according to JSO, but the video cut out before he hit the tent. According to the report, Timm said he was upset that the video ended before “the good part.”
Timm said he waited until there were no people in front of the tent before he ran it over although, JSO investigators noted in the report, the video showed people still standing there.
The case hasn’t gotten a lot of national media attention, although we know had the shoe been on the other foot, there would have been wall-to-wall coverage.
While local Republicans and Democrats, national Republicans and even the president have condemned the attack, there’s been no word from national Democrats like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
Indeed, on Sunday, Pelosi at an event said that what she would advise children who might be interested in politics that they “gotta be ready to throw a punch.”
Even the statement from the local Democrat, the president of the Duval Democratic Party, while condemning the act, is a bit twisted.
“The perpetrator of this violent and cowardly act should not be used by either side to politicize or demonize fellow Americans. We hope the Duval GOP will join us in asking our fellow citizens to act with dignity, civility and respect for one another during this election cycle and beyond. Acts of violence shouldn’t be politized.”
In other words how dare the GOP point out that this was a targeted political attack against them. Wow.
It isn’t hard to believe that this guy was whipped up by the demonizing of Trump by Democrats when he says things like he “had to take a stand.” He is responsible for his own actions. But Democrats need to stop the extremism, the demonizing and condemn acts of violence like this, unequivocally.
Unless you're in the UK. You can't carry a weapon there, and their drivers sit on the passenger side.

Politics may have been a driving force when a minivan smashed into a group of Trump campaign volunteers in Jacksonville, Florida, over the weekend.
Gregory Timm, the 27-year-old accused of driving into a tent of local Republicans doing voter registration in a Walmart parking lot, told investigators he dislikes President Trump, according to a partially redacted police report.

I’ll never forget when a former coworker told me his kid had Aspergers (this is when it was almost unheard of). Me, being an experienced parent thought “sounds like he just needs some spankings and fewer trips to McDonalds.”
