Virginia Democrats want to make it legal for unmarried people to have sex

Only married couples can have sex, according to a legal loophole still on the books in Virginia.

Democratic state legislators in the Virginia House of Delegates repealed the “crime of fornication” last week—in the state that has long used the slogan, “Virginia is for lovers” to attract tourists, Fox 40 reports.

Currently, fornication is a Class 4 misdemeanor and carries a fine up to $250.

“It’s a stupid law. It’s crazy,” Democratic delegate Mark Levine, who introduced H.B. 245, said. “No one should think they can be prosecuted for this common practice.” […]

“Now that the Democrats are in power, I’m thrilled to get it off the books,” Levine said. …

I’d be on death row :)

They’re making some kind of absurd political statement and trying to show how “backwards” and “monstrous” conservatives are.

Just because I’ve done it doesn’t mean I think it’s right but it shouldn’t be illegal of course.

It should be frowned upon because “defining deviancy down” is a real thing.

Better to start from a high point so when people fall it won’t be to too terrible a level.

Oh, it’s this asshat Levine again, giving AOC a run for her stupid. Having said that, per this law, which was in effect at the time, I’m a serial bigamist in VA and have several wives I left behind. Even a legal one.

Well
..these lawmakers were voted in by the public. Ya reap what you sow. Those previous laws were a hedge against statutory rape, incest, regular rape, prostitution, forced prostitution, extortion, adultery, spreading of venereal diseases, even passion murders. sow the wind...reap the whirlwind. The state of Virginia (ironic name) should be ashamed of itself.

If they are so worried about laws there, what about the laws about “undocumented immigrants” are “illegals”?

While I agree to a point we did not arrive at the state where Romans 1:18-32 is seem everywhere in the culture because of homosexuals. Rather first people abandoned the knowledge of the Lord. By the time people can arrive at thinking something so completely disordered like b elieving homosexuality is right and good they will have to have first compromised a lot away.

People who never had much real knowledge of the Lord to begin with, which were not drenched in the awareness of His one and only, once for all time given Gospel, or the Law before that in its time, are not at similar risk of being turned over to reprobate minds.

They should start by charging themselves for what they’re doing to the people of Virginia.

In an era where elementary school students are in engaging in oral sex in the classroom, they now think its time? Oh I forgot, oral sex isn’t sex by Presidential (ex presidential, in his mind.) decree? The age of consent is even ignored these days.

“Fornication is generally consensual sexual intercourse between two people not married to each other.”

So I guess homosexuals and lesbians are excluded from these “crimes”????

There was nothing unconstitutional about such statutes.

When the Constitution was ratified such laws were known among the several States that ratified, therefore the right to consent to engage in sex outside of the bounds of marriage (which was common law marriage, not marriage licenses by the government) cannot be among the P&I addressed by A4:S2:C1 nor can they be covered by the 9th Amendment as those were not a right retained among the States at the time of its ratification.

The same is true of any statute against homosexuality.

Small correction: under Scripture a man and woman who are lawfully able to marry becoming one flesh is what constitutes marriage.

Your first time was more than our culture believes it to be.

Nice! Liberals are twiddling their thumbs with stupid stuff like this. Rather then telling their officers to kill innocent people trying to defend themselves
