Migraine sufferers soon may have to seek relief elsewhere after GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) announced it temporarily halted the production of two popular Excedrin products.
In a statement sent to Fox News, the company said it was not recalling either Excedrin Extra Strength Caplets and Geltabs or Excedrin Migraine Caplets and Geltabs, but that it had discovered inconsistencies in how we transfer and weigh ingredients in the products, and was temporarily suspending production and distribution.
Based on available data, GSK believes that the product does not pose a safety risk to consumers, a GSK spokesperson said via email. However, as a precautionary measure, GSK Consumer Healthcare has voluntarily implemented a temporary discontinuation of production and distribution.
While the company did not say when it expects to resume production, the spokesperson said it is a short term issue.

Aspartame, I have read (I forget where) turns to something like wood alcohol at body temperature.
Never have eaten artificial sweeteners....still have migraines. Wish that was my problem.
I can tell within 15 minutes if what I are has sucralose, xylitol, acesulfamine, or aspartame, as they all give me a headache. You don’t get dehydrated in 15 minutes.
With sucralose and acesulfamine, it’s a blinding, I cannot function at all kind of headache, take a cab home from work headache.
MSG just makes me a bit jittery.
I’ll stick with sugar, thanks anyway...
The Walmart house brand equivalent is about a third the price or less.
I have helped fives ladies I’ve know over the years for their migraines problems...stop eating sugar free foods/stuff that is artificially sweetened.
*******************************************
More specifically, many products causing headaches contain MALTODEXTRIN as THE triggering ingredient. It certainly is for my wife.
What about Holiday Inn ? Did You stay at one last night ?
Spoken as one who has never actually suffered a migraine.
Great for toothaches as well.
Nothing else worked...
1. My migraines are Excedrin-proof. I truly wish they were not.
2. Good calls on the warnings of aspartame and other chemical sweeteners.
Last was adult step daughter.
One of my biggest migraine triggers is chocolate. Even a bite or two now makes the next day miserable.
Another is sulfites. It took me a long time to figure out why my migraines always landed on Tuesdays. I usually did my grocery shopping on Mondays. As I bought two weeks worth of food for our then family of six with all four little kids in tow, it was a big trip. I always bought dried fruit for the kids and me to eat while putting away the groceries.
Dried fruit has sulfites. Wine does as well and red wine use to give me headaches, but with blood pressure meds it no longer does. Chocolate and dried fruit are still off limits, but being able to enjoy red wine is a gift from God :-).
Aw dammit.
I never eat anything sugar free and still get them.
People need to watch out for Xylitol, though.
It’ll kill your dogs and it’s hiding in things that don’t even make sense.
I’ve compared Extra Strength and Migraine labels, too. Can’t see anything different - I always wondered if the “fillers” were different... But what good would that do? They are the same price, too, aren’t they? So why the different label? A marketing reason, perhaps? Can’t convince migraine sufferers that Extra Strength Excedrin is good for migraines? Who knows...
(I’ve got two big bottles. I can wait this out...)
These ladies I have known over the years suffered such.
I noted their eating habits and what they drank. All of them consumed diet foods and drinks.
A change for them greatly decreased any occurance of migraines. I was looking for might trigger theirs and they were willing and wanted to try.
I myself would never intentionally seek a artificial sweetner.
Do you know what it is or are they those ambushing migraines that jump out of the bushes and try to eat your brain?
No one should take aspartame.
But, please refrain from making claims that you cured migraines. Your sample size is a bit sparse.
Migraines range wildly in intensity, type, and frequency. Some victims have virtually no quality of life because they are flattened 15+ days per month.
Some migraines respond to meds, some just dont. When your loved one is in the ER vomiting and in excruciating pain, you may become a bit less cavalier about your magic migraine cure.
Yeah, I don’t get it. The few I know who have migraines say Excedrin is worthless. I don’t get them but I only take the equivalent of Excedrin for headaches - ibuprofen and Tylenol do nothing for me. 2 bottles/100 per bottle at Walmart for 4.00 - exact same ingredients.
