How long since the last big one? 12,000 years? Or more?

Let’s keep some perspective here...

Austalia will see the asteroid with the naked eye first during the 2029 close pass:

“ASA said that asteroid Apophis will look “like a moving star-like point of light” to earthly observers during the 2029 pass. It said the asteroid:

… will first become visible to the unaided eye in the night sky over the Southern Hemisphere, flying above Earth from the east coast to the west coast of Australia. It will be mid-morning on the East Coast of the United States when Apophis is above Australia. It will then cross the Indian Ocean, and by the afternoon in the eastern U.S. it will have crossed the equator, still moving west, above Africa. At closest approach, just before 6 p.m. EDT, Apophis will be over the Atlantic Ocean – and it will move so fast that it will cross the Atlantic in just an hour. By 7 p.m. EDT, the asteroid will have crossed over the United States.”

By thaat point in time, I have a name for it ... the Blanco-Nagin Express, for surely, it will demonstrate the administration’s ineptitude of that moment, as truly as Hurricane Katrina demonstrated the ineptitude of those two dolts!!

Trump ploy just to disprove global warming experts. In the last year before we’re all dead from global warming, Trump steers an asteroid into the planet just to hide the results of global climate change!

Hey asteroid scientists,

Is it gonna snow tomorrow?

Can you tell us THAT accurately?

Nahh... didn’t think so...

These asteroids are starting to annoy me. I read idea once about attaching a solar sail to an asteroid, using the sun’s radiation to change its course.

I would think that’s enough time to send up a big nuke just in case.

Kind of like Joy Behar.

“...370 meter asteroid...?” Not big enough to be scary. A few years back, there was a site where we could enter some information to see the approximate damage. I lost track of the URL for that site since then.

Admit it. We all think an asteroid strike would be cool to see, as long as it’s not too close.

Very old news (Posted on FR many times since 2004)... Apophis will be making a couple of passes at Earth...

The government scrambled when the first (2004) reports/calculations showed a 2029 collision... It redid the calculations using "million-man-march" mathematics and found that this first pass would just be a "close call"...

The next pass, in 2036 will be "much" closer...

Nothing to see here... The government has everything under control... Move along...

Well, I violated FR protocol and looked at the article. It says they expect the asteroid to pass by at a distance of 19,000 miles on April 13, 2029.

April 13 is Jefferson's birthday. Four asteroids were discovered during his lifetime. I don't know if he took an interest in the news.
