Search Broken? ... PING!

You can find all the Windows Ping list threads with FR search: just search on keyword "windowspinglist".

Yeh....I just got a new computer with 10...and it happened and I thought I screwed up. Called my son in NYC....said I wasn’t the only one with the problem and just wait it out.

I’m posting this to help anyone who was wondering what the heck happened to Search. Not meant to be a Win/MS bash thread, but a helpful one. Share your experience with the problem, but let’s try to keep it on topic. :-)

This doesn’t include the network bug that just appeared where Office documents can become truncated on saving them if the network fails. At work, I have had several documents become truncated, losing all content because my employer blocks Microsoft’s “phone home” of Office document metadata.

Microsoft is for all practical purposes an Indian company now, and Indians have zero morals or ethics.

Unfortunately, my last Windows machine bit the dust, and I am left only with Linux for now.

So the search feature was making 3rd party calls by default and no one was picking up the phone?

I gave the finger to The Cloud and spent a bit more to get a local version of Office. It was for crap like this.

I have Windows 10 but never use Bing, only Chrome. Is that what was broken? I haven’t noticed anything wrong yet.

I refuse to upgrade to 10, so when this dies, and it will be soon, I’m wondering what folks know about an Apple Mac? I know they’re expensive, but I’m ok with that as long as it’s a simple platform. Thoughts?

Microsoft needs to start asking people what they want rather than forcing things they think we ‘need’... Of course Microsoft is run by liberals so the ‘bully’ the little people comes naturally to them.

Wait until the next time Win 10 search breaks and gives search results for someone else's search on their computer to files on your computer, and of course, full access to those files!

we all found out that our local search boxes are somehow dependent on some service working at Microsoft.

This is only a surprise to folks who ignored the Snowden revelations--everything is shared with NSA and a bunch of others, no doubt.

That is what the computer software business _is_.

I haven’t seen Windows in use in 20 years. Does it actually still exist? It’s kind of like defrosting a freezer or playing marbles.

Doesn’t seem to be a problem with Win7. Windows 10 users should probably upgrade to 7 or XP, both of which were tested before release.

In an open letter to new Windows head Panos Panay, Susan ‘Patch Lady’ Bradley was similarly sceptical, noting that today “we all found out that our local search boxes are somehow dependent on some service working at Microsoft.” She attacked the company for a lack of transparency and gave it a maximum ‘Pinocchio score’ for a lack of trust.

Both of my Windows 10 boxes were impacted by it and since I don't use Office365 nor Bing, why my local desktop search wasn't working had me yelling "BULLSHIT!" at Microsoft's excuses.

The "fix" worked for me the other day, I'll say this though: I have WireShark running on my network now and I'm taking another look at what my two Win10 boxes are sending back to MS again. I have all the privacy settings enabled, they should be getting NOTHING, we'll see.

On another note, I finally finished my Hackintosh this morning and that's what I'm using to post this. :-)
