Last year, Eric Trump was asked about Secret Service protection at Trump Organization properties.
If my father travels, they stay at our properties for free, he said. So everywhere that he goes, if he stays at one of his places, the government actually spends, meaning it saves a fortune because if they were to go to a hotel across the street, theyd be charging them $500 a night, whereas, you know we charge them, like $50.
You will be stunned to learn this is not remotely true.
Instead, as the indefatigable David Fahrenthold and three colleagues at The Washington Post chronicle in his latest scoop on the presidents business, the Trump Organization charged the Secret Service (in other words, the taxpayer) between $400 and $650 per night to stay at Mar-a-Lago while guarding the president. At another Trump property, his golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey, the Secret Service was billed $17,000 per month for a small cottage, even when the president wasnt present. These are just snapshots. Despite heroic public-records work by the Post, theres still no complete picture of just what the Trump Organization is charging the Secret Service....
As the Post notes, other presidents who allowed the Secret Service to use their properties, including both George Bushes and Bill Clinton, didnt charge them.

That was more likely Barrack not wanting to cross big Michelle on having his Mother in Law live in the White House and travel with them.

Consider, as President is he supposed to keep his business dealings at arms length so that there isn't even the appearance that he is profiting. Heck, didn't the 'rats try to pursue an Emoluments clause violation or some such at one point or several times? Hey 'rats, you can't have it both ways.
Put yourself in the position of the manager running these properties - yes, for a profit. Those are valuable rooms or cottages etc. If you take them out of play, that costs that business real money. It doesn't matter if the President is actually there or not. If the Secret Service is there doing pre-visit or post-visit work, that property is unavailable to rent to other paying customers.
"...other presidents who allowed the Secret Service to use their properties, including both George Bushes and Bill Clinton, didnt charge them.
Sounds nice, but let me guess, these were personal properties, houses, ranches, etc. - not part of a commercial enterprise.
And CHEAP at that!
“Of course, the easiest way to visit Mar-a-Lago is to become a member. Membership has numerous benefits, such as the use of the formal and casual dining areas, the Trump Spa and Salon, the pool, the Beach Club, the fitness center, and gorgeous state-of-the-art suites, just to name a few. But it will cost you a fortune: A $200,000 initiation fee to be exact, plus $15,000 in annual dues. Oh, and if youd like to spend the night, youll have to pay an extra $2,000.”
As we previously reported, U.S. President Donald Trump did not donate his entire salary for the purpose of rebuilding military cemeteries.
However, Trump has repeatedly followed up on his pledge to donate his presidential salary. The following list documents what government projects or departments have been chosen to benefit from Trumps quarterly paychecks so far:
Quarter/Year | Recipient | Earmark |
Q1 2017 | Dept. of the Interior | National Park Service maintenance of a Civil War site |
Q2 2017 | Dept. of Education | A science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) camp for children |

Remember these are not Trumps properties to do what he wishes. There are investors in each. Trump manages them. His family is also part of the ownership group as well. But he is not running the family business anymore. The democrats saw to that. And the secret service is not renting a room for the night permanently. They have moved in. The deal with the secret service was likely a normal government deal. Clinton had no place as President. And Bush had a ranch in the middle of nowhere with a barn type building the secret service took over. They bought their own food.
The movie “Shattered Glass” taught me everything I needed to know about journalism.

It’s on every site now and spreading like wildfire.
$10,000 a month, IIRC.
Google Trump $650

It was on Rachel Madcow last night which assures it is fake.
It is probably to prevent bribery. The SS protects the president but works for the government.
Thanks for posting
Biden charged them for space for a little building on his property.
This has been pretty common for decades.
“This probably includes room service and the minibar in high end rooms. And judging by history, the Secret Service has been known to party hard... lol”
I think they get women also :-)
I that Trump properties donates the profits from every stay by Foreign officials. Every quarter there is a donation to the Treasury.
This is the original story from 2018.
The Atlantic should investigate how much Biden charged them, but also why he phallus flashed the female Secret Service but, only when his wife wasn’t home.
lol, I was thinking that but wasn’t going to go there. But if true, this is would be VERY AFFORDABLE AT TWICE THE COST! :)
