I watched this movie and could not stop thinking that it parallels the story how Democrats (parasites) work to destroy good families. It is typical moviemaking in that the plot doesnt make sense at times. But the bad guys get their due.
Ode to my Father was a far better Korean movie.
By the time I got to the bottom of the poster it was clear how dumb a movie it must be. Class warfare thinking is as common in the ROK as anywhere else, but the plot is ludicrous, unless you are ignorant of rnodern Korean history.
It was a great movie. This idiot who writes for this trash site is an elitist snob,
I smell Best Picture Oscar.
Some truth but craft and substance wise still better than vast majority of Hollywood films. And eventually a Korean film with better message will rise to the top.
I recommend these two Korean movies:
Train to Busan (2016)
The Good, the Bad, the Weird (2008)
This movie review is COMPLETELY BOGUS.
One of the best (and most disturbing) films I’ve seen in years.
But not WOKE enough for the progs.
The Parasite is well worth seeing.
A friend saw it & recommended it. Haven’t seen it yet.
Easily one of the best movies ive watched in a long time. This review by RCM is garbage. My Korean colleague told me that interestingly, and unintentionally, the movie very much describes the Justice Minister nominee of Korea and his family. Him, his wife, his two kids faked basically everything in their life and almost became the 2nd most powerful person in South Korea last year.
Sooo...
This “family” was doing the pizza box folding thing as a way to make ends meet while between grifts?
Sounds like professional grifters to me.
If you want to see a GREAT movie go see 'Created Equal' . It's the life story of Judge Thomas in his own words and it's positively riveting!
The one criticism I would have with the essayist is that the reason the poor family was poor was that despite their intelligence and skills they had no formal credentials.
Companies would have checked whatever credentials they presented, so if they tried to pass off fake ones they would have been busted.
So finagling their way into the lives of a rich family via references and a couple of fake curriculum vitae was not completely ludicrous.
In the US there are numerous companies (particularly those idiotic enough to pay McKinsey to tell them how to run their business) that will only hire people with a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree. Even if those jobs don't require that level of training. There are even companies that will only hire from particular universities. As if only Harvard or Yale graduates are competent. If something like this is happening in Korea then I can see how some talented people can fall through the cracks.
This movie captures the essence of so many South Koreans, the Korean cultural norms, and so accurately shows all the things Westerners can not see nor apparently understand... without the Heart of Koreans.
My wife is Korean and our boys even understood most of it. Go to a Korean American Church and they will tell you with horror the embarrassment that they felt over the drunk taking a peek, or the flooding... yet also recognize the SCAMMERS, and so much more.
This movie should have been titled “Korean Thought in a Nutshell. “
