Dr. Anthony Fauci of the National Institutes of Health told CNBC on Monday that a quarter of Chinas coronavirus cases require intensive treatment.
About 25% of them have very serious disease, requiring relatively intensive or really intensive care, said the director of the NIHs National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
The NIH is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

They’re dead Jim.
Now I’m worried, this explains the massive hospital building, the quarantine, everything. I hope the President is up-to-snuff and knows what a serious threat we are facing. He needs to halt all travel now, and you know what I mean.
Keep in mind that mild cases would not even go to a doctor, and thus not show up on statistics.
So are we if this thing take hold. How many intensive care beds do we have in each hospital?
What happens when 200 show up for 10 beds?
Most likely 190 die ...
“Intensive Treatment” as it sys in the article is a whole lot different from the “Intensive Care” headlined. I think the headline writer got his story wrong.
1/4 require intensive care...would that mean that more then that require hospitalization?
“About 25% of them have very serious disease, requiring relatively intensive or really intensive care, said the director of the NIHs National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.”
Welcome to the party - we’ve been talking about that exact number (25%) since early last week. If this bug goes widespread, our healthcare system doesn’t stand a chance (regardless of death rate).
So, we would expect to see the mortality raise as the hospital system gets overwhelmed.
And, the 10 beds are filled with flu, heart attacks and trauma.
There is a general feeling out there that hospitals are like hotelsthey always have an off the chart room. Its not like that.
This time of year they are full.
“Very Serious” is being in room full of rocking chairs with 20 long tail cats...
“What happens when 200 show up for 10 beds?”
Try 2,000, or maybe 30,000.
“These hospitals had a total of 540,668 staffed beds and 94,837 ICU beds (14.3% ICU beds/total beds) in 5229 ICUs”
Thanks for posting in case some were unaware. This 25% ICU estimate has been out there. If you catch this thing you will be in bad shape for a while.

WEll then we should see that 2.145% mortality rate climb soon. So far it has remained in that area, as it relates to documented cases.
To help put this in perspective for those who are comparing this to the regular flu such as this season in the USA, what percent of our USA regular flu patients are requiring an intensive care or semi intensive care hospital bed here, this flu season? Or in any average year here in the USA?
Have them draw straws
What is the genetic susceptibility of this particular coronavirus? Many Westerners live and work in Wusan. How many of them have become infected or have died? These are very politically incorrect questions to ask. However the answers are critical to understand the epidemiology of this disease.
