Isn’t the official name the Iroquois? I believe “Huey” is a nickname because it’s a UH-1 or HU-1.

The Huey was nick name for Hughes Aircraft as in Howard Hughes. It had Hughes and Utility in the name.

“Huey” comes from Vietnam and Hollywood. The offfical name is UH1 Iroquois and that’s how we learned it in the Army. I’m glad to see it’s official name used for a change.

UH-1 Iroquois Is the given name for the Huey.

It was first designated HU-1 hence branded "Huey" by the troops.

UH-1H, Huey, best helicopter ever built, low tech, versatile, adaptable, forgiving, and tough. I’m kinda biased tho, 8 years in the Army as a crew chief. :)
