CDC Flu Map STILL SOLID after 5 weeks
CDC ^

Posted on 02/03/2020 6:00:47 AM PST by GulfMan

I always watch the CDC flu map, I cannot recall such a long period where the entire US was solid at the highest level for 5 weeks straight. In our area, it's hitting hard, everyone is sick.

See the CDC Flu Map ...

Not to mention the longevity rates of those who have been vaccinated to those not in elderly.

Public skewls have also become leftist indoctrination factories and purveyors of political correctness. As the Paul Simon song goes “Its a wonder I can think at all”.

Agree with you on the Khan Academy which is a great educational site.

I have never seen the CDC flu map solid ever. I don’t watch continuously but I do check regularly but have not so much this winter. Never seen it like this.

Except the District of Columbia.

I wonder why they’re exempt?

Corona is a potential pandemic. Flu is a current pandemic.

Get rid of public schools and I suspect the flu season will be significantly reduced.

*************

It would also significantly reduce illiteracy and ignorance.

Not to mention the Leftists’ indoctrination of yet another generation of our precious youth.

As an aside, it is a wonder that with the deck being completely stacked against capitalism and freedom (it starts in the schools, and then continues on for a lifetime in the media and the workplace), we still have some measure of capitalism and freedom, and that people who unabashedly back those twin pillars of our civilization can get elected and even hold majorities against the Leftists. That is not merely a wonder, but a measure of how correct those who back and practice those twin pillars are correct - and of how wrong the Left actually is.

Thanks, you know, you always hear people talk about how lack of Vitamin D in the winter is why the flu comes around this time each year. I don’t think so, it effects the southern states with plenty of sunshine just as bad, in fact, it normally starts there.

As the map says, it measures “SPREAD” and not “SEVERITY”.

So it - the map - is about the range of areas where new flu cases continue to be found but the numbers of cases found.

In spite of the spread, this seasons virus seems to be weaker than last year’s.

As of February 2019:

2019 Specifically, the CDC estimated the October 2018 through February 16, 2019 flu season’s impact as follows:

17,700,000 – 20,400,000 symptomatic illnesses
8,200,000 – 9,600,000 medical visits
214,000 – 256,000 hospitalizations
13,610 - 22,300 flu-related deaths

As of February 2020

2020 - The CDC has published its 2018/19 Flu Season Preliminary Burden Estimates with
9.8 – 11.4 million flu illnesses,
4.6 – 5.4 million medical visits for flu, and
113,000 – 136,000 flu-related hospitalizations.
10,000 flu related deaths

I got the flu on Sunday, January 19th. Was sick as a beaten dog for five days - spent hours soaking in a hot bath to lessen the pains in my extremities. Slept no more than 3 hours a day during the first week. Hallucinated and had brain fog.

The fever broke on the third day and then the chronic cough appeared. It is now Day 16 of a cough and sore throat. The cough syrup with Codeine that the doctor prescribed helped (and made me drowsy throughout the day), but I’ve used it up.

Crazy that I’m still not at 100%. The wife and three of the kids got it, but theirs only lasted for a few days. The worst of them was my four-year-old daughter - she didn’t eat for five days but is now completely recovered.

The worst part of this story is I got a flu shot in November and got a two-day flu in December.

This new virus is a China problem just like SARS was a China problem.

The Johns Hopkins link supports that conclusion.

You’re trying to spread panic and draw attention yourself, LOL! This is a very minor problem for the United States.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/03/world/asia/coronavirus-china.html

The death toll from the new coronavirus has exceeded that of the severe acute respiratory syndrome outbreak in 2002 and 2003 in mainland China. But the number of people who have recovered nationwide has also risen in recent days, suggesting that the new virus’s fatality rate is relatively low.

China’s Health Commission reported on Sunday that there were 475 recoveries and 361 deaths nationwide. During the SARS outbreak, 349 people died in mainland China.

Health experts say they are encouraged by the steady rise in the number of recoveries. They take it as evidence that the treatments meted out have been effective and that the virus does not appear to be as deadly as SARS.

SARS had a mortality rate of 9.6 percent, and about 2 percent of those reported to have been infected with the new coronavirus have died.

The grannywitch in my clan says it's the cooler air. Makes your sinuses colder and therefore more friendly to common cold and flu virus.
Doesn't explain why cold-nosed dogs don't catch cold...

You can’t get the flu from the vaccine. They got swine flu because they got exposed swine flu and the antibodies hadn’t completely kicked in yet.

Oh, so now The NY Times is reliable? Ok.

Look, I am nor spreading fear or trying to draw attention. On an any mouse site, that not really a thing is it?

As I wrote before, I find this process interesting. I find blind denial to ignorant.

Go which way you want. I literally don’t care one way or the other.

From the CDC.

CDC briefing notes, hattip Sharon Sanders at FluTrackers:

“5 more US infections, total is 11.

4 of 5 have travel history to Wuhan, 1 of 5 is a close contact of a known case.

Expect this to continue.

167 persons under investigation have tested negative

82 tests pending on possible cases

CDC has isolated virus

Will submit an emergency request to FDA to be able to use new CDC test

Negative test does not quarantee 100% disease free. Infection might be new in person’s body and is not picked up by test yet.

CDC is issuing additional guidance for travelers

Travel policy will not catch every case. Goal is to slow entry in the US.

Dept of State bringing more people back from Wuhan. Will be under quarantine for 14 days.

“A very serious health threat” Preparing like this is the next pandemic.

Rumor control? Holding press conferences to get correct information out. Asking for journalists to help in getting credible data out. American public is at low risk. Focus is now on travelers.

Name is temporary.

11 airports are heaving screening: JFK, O”Hare, SFO, Seattle, Honolulu, LAX, Atlanta, Washington Dulles, Dallas, Newark, Detroit.

Only 195 quarantined - the original people from Wuhan. (My comment: Except what about the hospitalized people? Aren’t they essentially quarantined also?)

No deaths in the US. Some patients have had some oxygen requirements.

Where do quarantined people from the airports go? Working on plan. Might be different per location. Many localities have pandemic plans and have an idea where they will place these people.

17k in China with a novel virus with no immunity. Large expanding outbreak. Community transmission in China. All worrisome data points.

Goal is to slow this thing down.

“Unprecedented threat”

Is CDC panicking? Horrible situation in China. Lots of disruption. Hearts go out to them.

CDC has strong scientists. CDC would be a help to China. Science should trump everything else.”

https://flutrackers.com/forum/forum/-2019-ncov-new-coronavirus/china-2019-ncov/-2019-ncov-who-chp-wpro-ecdc-oie-fao-moa-reports-and-updates/827139-us-cdc-media-advisory-cdc-media-telebriefing-update-on-2019-novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-today-at-11-30-am-et?p=827154#post827154

Plus, they are starting more testing at the Detroit airport.

Unprecedented activity in China, and the start of serious steps in the US.

Feel bad for you man, it’s a bad one, hang in there, a few years ago I had one like that, was a month before I really started feeling normal again.
