In the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LIV, in a game descending into agony, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes asked his team to believe. It took some nerve to make that request because Mahomes, perhaps the most mesmerizing young quarterback the NFL has ever seen, seemed lost at that point. He was confused, frustrated, impatient. He was awful, and Mahomes doesn't do awful.
Tyreek Hill sighed and slumped his shoulders. Mahomes had just thrown a pass behind Hill, and San Francisco 49ers safety Tarvarius Moore intercepted it. It was Mahomes's second pick of the night, his first multi-interception game since November 2018. The Chiefs trailed by 10.
Believe? Hill had lost faith.
"Man, how are we going to pull this off?" Hill recalled asking.
"You've got to believe, brother," Mahomes insisted. "It's going to happen, man. I can feel it."

Just a reminder to Da Bears fans. You could have had this guy instead you traded picks to move up and draft....Mitch Trubisky.
I’ve been a Chiefs fan since 1970, when I was 10.
It’s been a long, long weird ride.
And, yes, when the Chiefs were down 10 with 9 minutes to go in the 4th quarter, I gave up and resigned myself to a loss.
But, there’s no quit in this kid.
I don’t care for him personally, but I think Brady could have done the same.
Yes, and the Bulls wanted Sam Bowie instead of Michael Jordan. Here’s a link to a Chicago Tribune article from right after the draft (Bernie Lincicome).

Brady did it. NE was down 10 in the 4th Qtr against Seattle and Brady led 2 TD drives. Of course, everyone remembers the bone headed Pete Carroll pass call resulting in the game winning INT for NE.
Pretty damned good yesterday. Let me know when he wins five more....
Jack Ramsey (passed on Jordan to pick Bowie for Portland), explained it logically:
You always pick the big man [center] over a guard when building a team.
There is no way anyone could have foresaw how dominant Jordan would be from the shooting guard position (there have always been a ton of good shooting guards, not many good big men).
49er fan here and I definitely wanted them to win last night, but Mahomes was the shining star. That young man is unflappable.
In the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LIV
Is this a coincidence? I do not believe in coincidences..
They are talking a 40 million a year long term contract for 10 years next year...and he is worth every penny of it to the NFL. Best shortstop in the NFL when he is in a jam. He throws cross body like the back end of a double play when he is scrambling in trouble. Great to watch.
Yep - he seems to be down to earth and a decent young man who managed to keep his cool and git ‘er dun when many would have been slipping into dejection...coach Reed is a class act too.
Brady down 25 with 17 minutes left...Mahomes down 10 with 9 minutes left...great performances.
“let me know when he wins five more”
Always a class act those New England Pats folks, Brady rubbing it in peoples faces at every chance, Belichick showing what a class act he is flashing those rings. It was good to see the others members of the 100 year team that were introduced before the game act with a bit more sense of accomplishment and maturity.
Yes! I saw that pass and said to my husband Oh my goodness, hes a side slinger. I was rooting for KC and was happy with the result. One of the KC team members played at our high school. And Mahomes IS a class act.
I was glad 49ers lost for two reasons. Nancy Pelosi and whispers that some 49ers will refuse to go the White House. So sick of that. Apparently when asked, the chiefs said itd be an honor to go to the White House if invited.
Interesting thing to me is Mahomes is so unconventional. Belichick would have probably benched a young Tom Brady for some of the throws Mahomes makes.
Here’s the deal, you can’t build a team with one player, as Tom Brady knows. Mahomes should make sure he doesn’t suck up all the money and that some of the money is used to have the best players around him.
The Patriots and Brady and Belichik are fantastic. But it’s Kansas City’s victory, Kansas City is world champ. And just like you Patriot haters, twitter says Kansas City cheated, game was rigged, and so on and boringly so forth. Patriots are a great club. So is Kansas City.
“...in a game descending into agony”
WTF writes like that?
