Thomas Valva’s mom: No one believed my warnings about NYPD cop dad Michael Valva
NY Post ^ | 02.01.20 | Kathianne Boniello

They thought she was making it all up. It cost a little boy his life.

From cops and social workers to lawyers and judges, Long Island mom Justyna Zubko-Valva claims no one took her warnings about her NYPD cop husband, Michael Valva, seriously.

Alleging sex abuse, starvation, brainwashing, beatings and possible child porn, the mom had insisted their three sons were suffering at Valva’s hands.

But instead of getting help, Zubko-Valva became lost in a legal labyrinth where she was the one on trial, painted as a scorned woman with a “vendetta,” court papers show.

One Suffolk County Family Court prosecutor slammed her as “mentally ill,” court papers show. Nassau County cops allegedly dismissed her as a mom “going for custody.” The NYPD apparently ignored her allegation that her ex was having sex in patrol cars on duty.

A Nassau judge gave custody of the three boys to Valva, who police now say killed one of them — the couple’s 8-year-old autistic son, Thomas — by leaving him overnight in a freezing garage at his Center Moriches home on Jan. 17.

Valva and his fiancée, Angela Pollina, were charged in Thomas’ death. Only then was Zubko-Valva given custody of her surviving sons, Anthony, 10, and Andrew, 6.

“I don’t know if it’s because he’s a cop. I don’t know if it’s because he had powerful friends in powerful places. It made zero sense to me,” autism expert Kimberly Berens, who worked with Anthony and Thomas, said of the custody battle.

Zubko-Valva’s neighbor Kathleen Izzo said: “The bottom line is she was not a lunatic. She was exactly right.”

By 2016, the couple had split, and Valva, 40, a transit officer, was forging a “Brady Bunch”-esque household with Pollina, 42, a mother of three girls.

Lucky you! I love Shelter Island and sailing on LI Sound. Not a lot of good wind until the fall though.

North Fork much better than Hamptons. Let’s hope it doesn’t change. Though I do enjoy Montauk.

I grew up in a very small town. One of the city officers lived right around the corner from us. He was out in the front yard drunk beating his wife bloody about three times a week in front of all of us kids. Happened for years.

Nothing ever happened to him because he had so much legal control, authority, and fear over the citizens. He could break you and ruin your life in one stop. And no, his peers did absolutely nothing about it.

By your standard living south side of Chicago same living in Naperville, Winnetka or Lake Forrest. And Detroit is same as Bloomfield Hills. That’s a joke.

Yes, I guess if the same thing happened in DeKalb County, Georgia, people out on Long Island would say "that's the way things are in Atlanta", and then you might be right.

Been to Atlanta 40 years ago. Visited Dunwoody in DeKalb County. Dunwoody seemed really nice. Have no idea what it’s like now. I “hear” lots of crime in Atlanta.

We’ve had a few cases like this in Maryland — certifiably psycho parents given unsupervised custody and the responsible parent painted as crazy or vindictive — then the child was killed. One guy threw his kid off a bridge. Another killed both kids in a hotel room.

Then there is that cray-cray mother in Texas trying to turn one of her little boys transgender and start hormone treatments, and the (female) judge is siding with her against the relatively normal father.

I would like to see some kind of law that holds family court judges accountable if they impose unsupervised custody in spite of evidence of violence and then the child is harmed.

Someone needs to be fired over this. How could the social workers not have cared what happened to the children?

They said some were duplicates. Remember ince they were not home. The kid had a black eye. They are supposed to investigate within 24 hrs.

It would be nice, but that will never happen. The System protects itself.

The American people are being stressed beyond ability to cope by 100 years of liberal/globalist governance and propaganda, only temporarily relieved from time to time by a few Republican administrations—Coolidge, Eisenhower, Reagan. Now Trump is trying to remove a mountain. We can only hope he is reelected and can reshape the frkn SCOTUS, as well as the lower courts. The Democrats, the courts, the universities and the newsmedia are driving people wild.

Talk about a rotten system! That poor little child. He literally died to free his brother and stepsisters. I hope they will receive counseling and adequate care.
