Seems I’ve heard of the bears being a problem over there.

Mostly I was just curious because your nickname is shared by a friend of a friend on FB.

‘What type of bikes does everyone have.....?’

Specialized Sirrus, candy apple color accents...first time I’ve ever had disc brakes...

It was a beautiful (49 degrees Fahrenheit!) afternoon here in Wisconsin for a 12 mile ride. There were only a few places where I was forced to ride over ice or packed snow.

Really love your story KingLudd. When I was a soph in high school my brother and I took out a book from the school library titled The Complete Book of Bicycling by Eugene Sloane. Between the two of us we had the book checked out for most of the school year 1973-74.

Both of us used the instructions in the book to lace up our own wheels, mine were Mavic tubular rims with Campy high flange hubs. All I have now from that build is the front wheel campy hubs, I think the rear wheel (as well as my fishing pole) was stolen from our barn when I was away at college. I only used those wheels on a limited basis because as you know fixing tubular flats was/is a pain.

I have this real desire to build and really learn how to make quality wheel sets. I also would like to restore a mid 70s era steel road bike, 531 double butted, all campy machine.

What type of bikes does everyone have.....?

I just bought a Trek Dual Sport 4. Traded in my old (1986?) Bridgestone 12 speed road bike.

The Bridgestone was a good bike but heavy and too narrow for all the gravel paths around here.

Haven't done any big rides yet on the Trek. But the test ride felt really good and I love the ease of shifting that modern technology allows. Far better than the find em or grind em levers on the old bike.

Haven’t repaired a sew-up since 1983! Thank you for your story. I hope you build your dream bike.

Love it. Fun part is riding on and cracking through thinly iced puddles. Lots o& whee!

I'm putting some medium hard dirt trails on my property. Should I take my Trek 850 in to be refurbished//tuned/updated or invest a couple-few grand in a new ride?

If new ride then gravel or XC?

TY.

I was sitting here...trying to remember all the bikes I've had....First one I remember was a StingRay...

I had a ten speed for a time...in early H.S.

I had a beach cruiser that I loved...in my early 30's...Got stolen..from the place I worked at...

Had a cheap MTB...that the Hosp I worked at bot for me...as long as I rode it to work so many days a month...

Had a front shocked Haro MTN bike....Actually was a great bike...Until I ran it into a carport...as it was on a rooftop rack....

I now have the Marin East Peak..

Nice, on your island right?
You might stay with the bike you have now to establish the rat-lines on your new trails.
Let that one take the beating meanwhile look for a new one.
Enjoy!

That’s not a bad idea, thanks. I’m gonna see what can be done with my old frame... I like it.

Sold and miss the Kelleys Island property, that’s where I got into winter riding.. so sweet. Now in the desert SW. I’ve got an old Gary Fisher up in the rural NW as well. Lotsa up and down, lol.
