Ted Cruz appeared to mock Nancy Pelosi's infamous handclap on the floor of the Senate Friday after 51 Republicans voted against calling witnesses in President Trump's impeachment trial - effectively ending Democrat's attempts to remove him from office.
The Texas senator, 49, was seen mimicking the clap as he spoke with other Republicans, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, before the vote was called around 5 pm.
Last year, Speaker Pelosi 'condescendingly' clapped her hands at President Trump following his State Of The Union address - a move which sparked international headlines and a flurry of memes.
On Friday, Cruz's imitation of the distinct gesture quickly went viral on Twitter, where it divided users.
Some supporters called the clap 'hilarious' and 'awesome', while one detractor claimed that the moment was unbecoming of a senator during such a somber proceeding.

Totally agree. He's a cur dog elitist who is completely out of touch with Republican voters and the party. His only loyalty is to himself, the rest of the country be damned.
I'd like to see every Republican in Congress loudly call him out to his face, for his perfidy and treachery. Spit right in his face, and tell him in no uncertain terms, that he's not welcome in our camp.

I’m amazed that turncoat Mitt’s niece gets to head up the RNC.
Just doesn’t seem right.
First, we see a LOT of 2018 R seats turn from red to blue, then her Uncle joins Dems to go against Trump, on the hoax impeachment witness vote.
It would be great (and reminiscent of Trump’s trolling Pelosi by giving away pens) if the R senate all clapped like that when Trump is acquitted.

I’m not convinced that Rona McDaniel is a RINO traitor, but you do make a good point. Why didn’t the GOP fight tooth and nail over losing so many House seats in red districts last year?
That’s been bothering me since it happened.
