Lawmakers want to know why people are leaving New York state

Two state lawmakers want to find out why people are leaving New York faster than almost any other state in the country.

The latest census numbers show New York's population dropped by 77,000 between 2018 and last year.

According to the Empire Center for Public Policy, 1.4 million people have left New York since 2010. The report shows the majority of people who left moved to Florida, Texas, California, and Pennsylvania.

Republican Sen. Jim Tedisco and Democratic Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara, who chairs the Commission on Rural Resources, say they will put a questionnaire online and hold roundtable meetings across the state to get to the bottom of this trend before the Empire State becomes the "Empty State."

The Democrats are willfully ignorant, but there is no excuse for this Republican not knowing the reason for the exodus. This just highlights how clueless the NY GOP truly is.

Lefties might be willing to pay the highest tax rates in the country, IF you make sure they have good schools to send their kids to, and you make sure the cops keep the riff-raff out of their neighborhood and stop the bums from pooping on the subway. When you stop doing that though, then even the lefties won’t stay and pay your taxes.

My guess is that with all that is going on in NY with the unchecked liberalism and a dollop of 10,000.00 cap on property tax write off, anyone who can reasonably easily leave will.

Well, at least no one can say the liberals are leaving NY State and will spread their liberal philosophy to CA... That might put that old tired canard to bed...

EXCEPT if they are conservatives leaving NY and moving to CA but I doubt that’s the case.

Hint: Taxes, taxes, and more taxes. Anti-2nd Amendment, anti-American, pro-crime, pro-abortion, pro-communist....and the list just rolls on and on.

You forgot the 'great hometown newspaper...

#1 Reason: HIGH TAXES!

Of course there are plenty of other reasons, too. Same as in all Blue States.

I saw a picture this morning of the Governor, captioned, “Congratulations Mario Cuomo, you’ve been named U-Haul’s 2019 Salesman of the Year!” Wish I knew how to post it here.

"Can these people really be that stupid?"

Yes, they are that stupid. Cuomo is a spoiled little tyrant that is trying to turn NY into a progressive paradise with all his screwed up ideas for micromanaging people's daily lives. People are leaving in droves. As soon as I find work in another state, I will be moving too. I tried once before but the Obama economy made it impossible to find a similar job and wage. NY is pretty much a lost cause unless something big happens soon.

Don’t these politicians read the papers? The internet?
Citizens have fled all parts of the state, NYC, upstate, downstate. In metro NYC non-citizens have replaced the citizens. Upstate NY, Rochester, Buffalo, flat out lost big population... and will lose Congressional seats after the Census.

Why? Jobs. Why no jobs? Regulations are #1. Taxes are #2.
I fled IL for GA, a similar situation. Actually, GA is not on the list in the article. Cleveland, Akron, Toedo, Columbus, Cincinatti are the #1 sender of yankees to GA. Pensylvania seems second. NY seems tied with MI for third in sending Rust Belt unemployed who want to work to Red states with jobs.

Most of these internal immigrants are Democrats. The Red states are turning purple...some areas blue. The Blue states are turning purple..Ohio red... because so many Democrats are leaving.

These yankee Democrats now in Red states are mostly Tribal Democrats. Most are not ideologs. If the local Republican Party looked attractive, they would switch parties.

Compare it to football. If the local GOP looked like the Chiefs or Texans or Titans, these Rust Belt refugees would switch tribes. But if the local GOP is complacent and boring like the Falcons, then they have no reason to switch teams.
