The parents of a Cornell freshman who was found dead at the bottom of a gorge after a hazing prank are suing the college and the fraternity he was joining the night he died.
Antonio Tsialas died in October last year after a night of brutal drinking and hazing with Phi Kappa Psi fraternity house in Ithaca, New York, at a 'Christmas in October' party.
His body was found in a gorge and he had high levels of alcohol in his system but his family's attorney says his cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma to the body. They do not know how he sustained it.
In a lawsuit filed on Tuesday, his parents accuse the university of turning a blind eye to the school's hazing culture and they name many of the fraternity's members, claiming they did nothing to save their son's life.

Glad you were able to divine the reality of the situation from a newspaper article. Have you spoken with Ithaca Police? Im sure theyll want to know the truth.
Oh, BTW, violent rape and frat initiations are NOT the same thing.
Indeed, sorry, he accepted this garbage.
That said, it IS garbage. I don’t know why these “collegiate” CHILDREN act this way. Is this a way to act out the urge to be cruel and violent to people in a “legal” fashion? Disguise it as a club brotherhood?
I also will never understand the obsession with drunkeness. Alcohol, all important. We are an alcoholic society, obsessed with “drinks”.
Yup.
They can be real bastards, though.
Thats a pretty good straw argument. Im sure there is a rape thread on FR somewhere that you can throw your views into.
But it has nothing to with what is being discussed on this thread.
You dont have any clue what happened here
Fraternities have been getting much cleaner over the past several decades. What you are describing may have been the rule from the 1950s to the 1980s but it is significantly different today.
What else has changed is the press each of these incidents garner.
Now, these incidents are big news because they are so rare.
What is not news is the large number of non fraternity kids that die on college campuses from drugs and alcohol. But those deaths dont fit the overall story line.
.....and Sorority girls can be just as bad if not worse in their own way.
I belonged to a frat at Cornell.
Phi Kappa Psi was probably the most popular amongst the 50 or so fraternities.
Cornell has two gorges that run through campus - one gorge is fairly close to Phi Kappa Psi. The one you are showing is not.
There is no hazing in October...hazing occurs in the spring. October is the time when Freshmen “rush” fraternities (explore whether or not to join)
The drinking age is 21. The frat should not have allowed a freshman to drink.
It is fairly difficult to accidentally fall into a gorge at Cornell - there are several suicides each year by people that deliberately jump into a gorge. There are measures in place to prevent such suicides, but if someone wants to kill themselves bad enough they can.
Anyone with half a brain can conclude that FWIW.
Looks like Transylvania
Have YOU spoken with the Ithaca police?
So YOU have definite proof that the fraternity is totally innocent?
Of course not.
Neither of us knows. But I have enough common sense to know that something smells fishy here
Utter garbage.
The young man was old enough to know better than to engage in such idiocy.
Thanks for the reply. I’m not familiar with the area or topical features.
What is that structure on the right that shows some windows,
openings and bldg up top? Is that pump station and water pipes
crossing the water or is that a road/cross way?
The foliage is beautiful so it must be fall time of the year.
Teach your children to belong to themselves, not to be outer-directed, but inner-directed.
Give them a jaundiced eye concerning groups & mobs.
You mean Ithaca. The city of EVIL?
CC
Mean Girls. ...I think women are worse then men at hazing.
We need to ban this dangerous drug.
Alcohol is just overwhelmingly bitter to me.
That’s a serious ass gorge. Here in New Mexico he’d have been found in an abandoned chevy in an arroyo surrounded by beer cans.
How stupid can you get?
The “adults” he was trusting were the older fraternity members.
He was 18, not 5...
and plenty old enough to have some common sense.
Many times I told my college friends “forget it” when they came up with something stupid for us to do.
