Jarred Evans is one of the evacuated Americans staying at the California base for at least 72 hours. Before landing in the US on the chartered flight, he spent more than a week holed up in his apartment in Wuhan as coronavirus raced through the city. During that time, he said, residents sent panicked messages, warning others to take precaution.
"It hit fast and ... it just was very hectic for like three days straight," he said. "I got the news from my Chinese friends saying, 'Hey, stay inside. Wear a mask. Don't go outside, stock up on some food 'cause this is going to get serious.' And as you can see, it's very serious."
"When you're there and there's no transportation, no trains, no subways, no planes, the military is blocking off each and every aspect of the road. No Ubers, nothing. Mom and pop stores are closed. You think to yourself, like, is this real?..."
The New York-native moved to Wuhan to play American football in a Chinese league. When the US Embassy announced it was evacuating diplomats, their families and some US citizens this week depending on space availability, he only had five hours to get to the airport, he said.
If health officials determine they don't pose a danger and can go home, they will still need to be monitored by local officials for the 14-day incubation period, Braden said. Those staying near the base can choose to remain there for the 14 days.
"If anyone demands to leave right now, that is where all of the partners ... would come together and talk about what needs to be done," said Dr. Nancy Knight, the CDC's director of global health protection. She noted that US marshals are on hand to ensure everyone's safety.

“What’s that purple gas?”
Latest medical report says average incubation period for 2019nCoV is 5 days.
Anyone else think this was a bio weapon that got loose?
Fast because China is an open sewer with skyscrapers.
Speaking of...wall up SanFran, Portland, Seattle, LA, and Manhattan!
“Anyone else think this was a bio weapon that got loose?”
It’s a test. They want our infrastructure intact.
I keep thinking about the movie Outbreak when there is a meeting at the White House on whether or not to nuke the town considered ground zero, and they decide to do it. Watch out people of Wuhan.
We have a pandemic of CRIMINALS in D.C.
Yet the coronavirus has killed LESS than two hundred people worldwide and countries are closing their borders? We're flying Americans out of China AND we're quarantining them? And we're suppose to believe this is a normal flu?
You might be right Wizdum... it's worth considering based on the actions of world leaders... (but not on their cheap words)...
72 hours should be at least 168 hours, restarted any time one of them gets sick.
Me. Imported to China by Chinese citizens working in the Ontario bio lab.
Blame Canada!
Trump jumped.kn that one fast!
Yes, I think it was a lab modified Corona virus. It is said that it was merged with an unknown virus. Sounds suspect.
Precedent was established back during the 1980s GRID epidemic when the "right" of those infected to engage in perverse sexual activity was deemed more important than public safety.
Never heard of GRID? It was actually a more accurate description that the term AIDS which replaced it.
I was talking to a Chinese friend yesterday. He said many smaller villages are closing their borders from outside restricting entry.
Engaging in perverse sexual activity is a lot different than just touching something.
Remember, China at first said 'no big deal', then more cases and deaths started to show up.
Here in the US, we have 5 cases we know about, incubation.....5 days. So we won't know spread or centers for another 5-10 days.
I am with you on the argument that this is not normal, but comparing this to the flu is not valid for a whole bunch of reasons. The flu is not as infectious or lethal and there is a chance to slow this thing down while the flu has a virtually unlimited reservoir of hosts.
But, yeah, some people know more than they’re telling the rest of us.
My folks use to have a place in Gunnison Colo small town in the mountains but on hwy 50 coast to coast road everyone used. During the flu epidemic 1918 they had a posse on each end of town that would not allow anyone to stop, they were escorted thru town, but needing food or gas was just too bad you were not stopping.
You're right - looks like the CDC is waking up... new announcements coming now.
