Florida man attempts to hide underwater from cops, gets arrested after coming up for air, police say

A Florida man attempted a “not so great escape” last week when he tried hiding from deputies underwater in a pond – an “action movie” stunt that officials easily foiled when he came up for air, authorities said.

Daniel Christopher Booth, 36, had warrants out for his arrest in Baker County for selling methamphetamine, the Suwanee County Sheriff’s Office wrote Wednesday on Facebook.

When a deputy attempted to arrest Booth at his job at a solar power plant, the sheriff’s office said, the 36-year-old ran away and dove into a pond.

“Now we can only assume that Mr. Booth has seen one too many action movies and thought he could hide from the K9 teams, from Suwannee CI and Mayo CI by hiding under the water in a pond,” the post read.

Booth was arrested and transported, still soaking wet, to the county jail, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies quickly spotted Booth when he came to the surface for air and made the arrest, according to the post.

Booth was transported “soaking wet” to the Suwanee County Jail, the sheriff’s office said, adding several comical hashtags, including “#NotRambo.”

He faced additional charges for the ill-planned escape attempt.

Social media users commented on the sheriff’s post, with several pointing out the fatal flaw in Booth’s plan.

“The good action movies show that you need to hollow out a reed to breathe through,” one user wrote.

Another said: “Clearly he forgot to grab a bamboo shoot to breathe through while he waited. He needs to watch more cartoons.”

I seriously doubt that is the cause of the high weirdness on the part of those people living in Florida.

It seems perfect that a meth dealer works at a solar power plant. Though it’s a toss up as to which benefits society less.

Florida has a potent and well-enforced public records law, with arrests and other criminal information required to be made available as soon as filed. Moreover, Florida sheriffs and police chiefs long ago learned that publicity from arrests is almost always politically beneficial, so the press usually gets tipped to noteworthy arrests.

Yeah, coming up for air would tend to give away your position

There isn't a body of water in FL that I'd submerge into in order to hide... (Even, in the southern part of the state, that includes swimming pools without very carefully being sure it was clear...)
Three reasons: Alligators... Pythons... Cotton Mouths...

In the really good action movies, you use the scabbard from your ninja sword.

I would add Brain-Eating Amoeba, although in this guy's case, that may not have been a huge concern.

Unless you are concerned about amoeba starvation.
