A mother has been jailed for 14 years for stabbing her bingo night friend who accused her of stealing £4,000.
Paula Ayres, 51, stabbed her friend Julie Page, 63, in the neck and back with a Stanley knife in Bishop's Waltham, Hampshire, forcing her to play dead to get away.
The friends spent years sharing their winnings, with Mrs Page even giving her bank card to Ayres, who withdrew cash every Sunday when they went to play bingo.
But Portsmouth Crown Court heard how Ayres began plundering the account, leading to the nearly fatal confrontation.
Mrs Page told the court she believes Ayres overheard her on the phone to her sister earlier that day when she discussed her suspicions about who had taken the money.
Later, Ayres stabbed Mrs Page in the neck twice and five times in the back. Her ear was also ripped because her earring had been pulled out.
Cardiff-born Mrs Page told the court she 'played dead' and Ayres left the house.
But Ayres was arrested soon after and police found she had put the Stanley knife in her washing machine to cover up the crime.
In court, Ayres claimed she had loaned cash to her friend on their bingo trips, but Mrs Page said: 'I've never taken a penny off the woman.'
Traumatised Mrs Page opted to give evidence from behind a curtain in court -and said she 'shocked' when her friend of twenty years put her hands around her neck during the confrontation.
She told Porstmouth Crown Court: 'I said to Paula, what's wrong with you? Why are you doing this?'

I was watching a crime series on criminals in England and they seem to have or have had a very large lower class blue collar number of neighborhoods with quite a bit of crime.
Maybe it was presented wrongly or maybe it’s changed.

Doesn’t sound like a very good strategy for “getting away”!
We live in Lago Vista Texas. We are considered Lake Trash! Not exactly blue collar. Much cheaper out here, though, that inside Austin city limits. Homes in our neighborhood are only $500K to over a million. Super cheap by Austin Tx standards. But we are considered Lake Trash because homes are cheaper/bigger out here. We are looked down on by the ppl in the old Austin neighborhoods where they pay over a million for a tiny 600 s f shack. LOL

There are also 3 other neighborhoods where we toured homes. Tiny shacks. Old. Musty. No yard. No driveway. No garage. Inside Austin. Zilker area. Bouldin area. Etc. Super pricy and they look so trashy.

Just wait until the next recession comes along (which I believe will be an epic one). Many of these homes will be the market at fire sale prices. That’s when you buy.

I hear Austin real estate is dropping like a rock and industry and jobs are being chased out of town by all the liberal city council. No one wants to like there any more. It will be like Detroit within several years.

My daughter told me that inside Austin, Lago Vista is called Lake Trash. She did admit that our little neighborhood isn’t trashy! but on the historic home tours I noticed that the really trashy areas are expensive and inside the city limits. But prices are thru the roof in Texas now, especially Austin. Austin has 7% of the current USA home price values right now. It is boom town city. Wish it would SLOW DOWN! Just like L A they don’t add enough new roads and lanes when they add new homes and businesses. I looked at a new area yesterday... It is either Jonestown or Leander, homes started at $500K and that was for stripped down homes. every upgrade and extra costs big bucks.... and price didn’t include the lot/land. The model homes were fantastic. Oh my. Gorgeous. But the spec house without any extras was plain jane. area called The Hollows. Then there is Travisso. Huge two story homes on small lots and you can’t have a fence there! CrAzY
