For thousands of little people, the short stature that comes with achondroplasia is not a disability in need of treatment but a difference to be celebrated. Organizations like Little People of America have spent years dispelling stereotypes, advocating for fairness, and pointing out that having achondroplasia doesnt preclude anyone from a fulfilling life. Dwarf pride means flourishing because of ones body, not in spite of it. More power to them. But if they go beyond that and wade into judging others for wanting to have a larger stature and lobby for it to be effectively banned because that's not their own choice, well, screw them.

If you don’t want to take advantage of this new opportunity, don’t. Forcing others not to do so is fascistic.

Interesting medical news, I suppose. However, as far as current events go, this is surely dwarfed by the coronavirus.

The SHORTNESS thing may play well in Italy but in this country an average male is closer to six feet tall and that isn't considered THAT tall anymore.
I was an instructor in a community college. I'm 5'7" and I wasn't so tall. The women there looked me straight in the eye. The ABCs --American born Chinese--are getting right up these in the tall category.
I had a male Asian student who had a BELLY. He was an ABC I was disGUSted. He asked me for a program to get fit. I gave him a strength-training program.
About a year late he met me after a class. He had on a white t-shirt. He whipped off his t-shirt and said:
"LOOK!! I have LATS!!" (latissimus dorsi)
He was so proud of them.
I remarked that this 20 year old body is one he could keep. He could look like that for a long time. The strength training wasn't THAT difficult and it HAD to make him feel good to be so much stronger.
Of the three fitness parts--cardiovascular, flexibility and strength--the MOST important was STRENGTH. It's especially important as we age.
We all want to be able to get out of bed by ourselves.
We all want to be able to get to the bathroom by ourselves.
We all want to be able to bathe ourselves.
NONE of us want to NEED to wear adult diapers.
Strength is the key.

They are lucky that this is the controversy. They could end up finding a way to predict someone with dwarfism inside the womb; then, we will see a reduction in the number of these people being born at all. Rather like what has happened with Downs Syndrome.

Abuse is a strong possibility. Every mom/pop that wants their kid to be the next SEC football/basketball star will be juicing their normal kids to the max to achieve something they were not intended to be. Nothing good ever goes without it being co-opted by fraudsters.

Is medical treatment truly an insult? Cannot people who would like to be taller make the change, while those who are ok how they are don’t do anything about it? Does everything have to be an insult? Politically Incorrect? Face palm.

The evil of identity politics. When your identity is tied to a disability, you oppose treatments to guarantee future disabled people.

A new treatment promises to make little people taller. Is it an insult to dwarf pride?
This is like the insanity which says deaf people should not seek treatment for their hearing, but rejoice in their disability. If a child is born with some trait which will keep him from attaining normal height, that child probably will want to get any treatment which can help him, as will his parents. And that's all that matters. What some gaggle of outsiders thinks is irrelevant, no matter how tall they are.
To: nickcarraway
Don't get caught heightening, it won't go well for you.
