Thought it may be a good idea to have a place to follow all the fast moving events in one place
updates coming in fast
"Typhoid Achmed"
Yep - only way would be to literally freeze all movement for 2-3 weeks...hope I and the wife are in the group that handles it well.
The Chinese are now admitting to 41 dead.
“those people without any obvious symptoms are contagious and cannot be tested; thus, the virus will continue to spread. So the point is there is no way yet to determine who is sick until the symptoms manifest
You are correct, with the possible exception to “cannot be tested”. They probably won’t be tested unless they have been in close contact with others who have it, but asymptomatic people can test positive for the disease.
But yes, asymptomatic people are always a danger in contagious diseases.
A lot of Asian Americans are in South East Asia for Chinese New Year right now. They will go back to their countries for 3 or 4 weeks once a year at this time. Most of them will be set to come back in about two weeks.
My guess is by that point there will be quarantines of at least 14 days for all of those returning. And if you are not a citizen returning, you probably won’t be coming at all at that time.

US government starting to freak as well. Theyre closing the consulate in Wuhan and evacuating the thousand US citizens.

and if it is contagious before showing symptoms like some reports suggest ...are they going to just wander around when they get back on US soil?

An Air China flight from Shanghai to Anchorage is less than an hour from landing. That flight will continue on to Chicago-OHare.
so at what point, if ever, do we and other countries stop all incoming flights from China?
Hong Kong has declared an emergency and is closing schools for the next 2 weeks
So what confuses me is that they claim 41 dead and something like 38 recovered, what about the thousands of others? Many have been sick since December. Either there are a lot more dead, or recovered, or both. We will never know with China, probably.
If I were US government, I would at least shut down flights from China. It wont stop it but may slow it down.
With 56 million on lockdown in China (that’s about five New York Cities) and Hong Kong shutting down school for two weeks (for now) - I’m guessing that number of 41 is off by a factor of 10 or 100.
And there are Christian Scientists who want nothing.
There are millions of weirdos all over the world.
This is not a political or religious discussion.
Excellent thing that our universities are, oh I dunno, 35% Chinese!
Thats my thinking too. The actions China is making are unprecedented.

for example..last night when the first Australian infected was announced she said that since he should no symptoms on the flight he wasn’t contagious....but other reports out of China are saying the opposite....then later the lady backtracked and said we don’t know how contagious he may have been....
That ship has sailed. We should start seeing evidence in Boston and CA soon if this was the case.
LOL, just a warning go light on that stuff.
One time, I was preparing for a trip to Italy and it was high flu season. So, I started with the Zicam. Probably a little excessively.
I lost my sense of taste for about half a day. Thankfully it came back quickly. Something with the zinc gluconate.
True story, not joking.
A doctor who worked at a hospital in Wuhan, where coronavirus patients are being treated, died Saturday morning
