Thanks for the link!

This might be a very good time for folks to review their plans for sheltering in place.

Just in case. Never hurts to have a plan.

39 now confirmed dead in China - if this virus was a gun, well, you know

A one-month waiting period would have been instituted to buy the virus -- uh, gun.

CIA should be finding out if this a bioweapon or a nature weapon instead of spending time trying to take down Trump

It is my understanding that during the Spanish Flu, it hit and killed the young and strong...When I say young...teenager and above. Their bodies spun into overdrive in trying to kill the disease and that is what killed them. Oldsters, who had a relatively compromised immune system to begin with fared better than their younger relatives in this respect.

You just know many democrats are hoping for a full blown pandemic so they can blame Trump. To the radical left a couple hundred thousand deaths is a small price to be rid of Trump. What the heck, Trump is going to kill the entire world in eleven years anyway.

China's coronavirus more contagious than SARS but less severe, says ex-FDA chief Scott Gottlieb

Physicians have compared coronavirus to the 2003 outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome, which had a short incubation period of two to seven days. At the time, World Health Organization officials said it was less infectious than the flu. While there were just eight confirmed cases in the U.S., it infected 8,098 people worldwide and killed 774.

SARS, however, didn't spread as fast in its first few weeks as the coronavirus, according to WHO data. It took almost two months for SARS to spread to 456 people. By comparison, the 2019 coronavirus has already infected more than 900 people in less than a month.

I am sad for you to lose a loved one from something we don’t take serious...the flu..A minor inconvience at best and for most all of us...several days of couch patrol.

That would be the cytokine storm.

This is why if you take Sambucol you need to educate yourself on where you stand on whether or not it effects the cytokine storm.

I err on the side that it does because I have seen the cytokine storm kill someone.

I think I almost fell victim to it but somehow survived with my homeopathic remedies. I used so many I can’t tell you what worked. I should have gone to the Dr but didn’t have insurance. Stupid move. I even did the onions on the feet. Didn’t care. I tried it all.

Was that a very young Gary Sinese in there?

Been a long time since I’ve seen that movie.

Whether or not she had the flu is debatable but that was the diagnosis from the family doctor...

I have since taken even case of sickness with seriousness. Out come the home remedies. Thieves oil, hydrogen peroxide in the ears..etc

I keep seeing people say it has ~3% fatality. This is incorrect. You cannot look at the ratio between diagnosed cases and deaths for a couple reasons. Firstly, it takes time to die. This virus is spreading at an accelerating rate, today its nearly 300 more cases than yesterday, let us for sake of argument say it takes 3 days to die, you should be looking at the total cases 3 days ago. Additionally their healthcare systems are overwhelmed, do you think they are going to focus resources on diagnosing and treating living patients, or worrying about what the dead died of.

I am NOT an epidemiologist, but I’m a pretty smart guy, and I go by what I see. The actions of the Chinese government do not, to my eye, display an abundance of caution, or an attempt to reassure the public that it has the matter in hand. They reveal to me panic. At this time they alone know the full scope of this, unfortunately I think we may all know before long.

This article appeared in “Nature” in 2017:

A laboratory in Wuhan is on the cusp of being cleared to work with the world’s most dangerous pathogens. The move is part of a plan to build between five and seven biosafety level-4 (BSL-4) labs across the Chinese mainland by 2025, and has generated much excitement, as well as some concerns.

Some scientists outside China worry about pathogens escaping, and the addition of a biological dimension to geopolitical tensions between China and other nations. But Chinese microbiologists are celebrating their entrance to the elite cadre empowered to wrestle with the world’s greatest biological threats.

Yes, but you can buy shop-type safety goggles or wrap-around glasses or even swim goggles that don't perfectly seal around the eye like a hazmat mask or certified goggle would, but provide protection from pretty much all angles. Since there is no pressure differential between inside and outside the goggle there is no force to draw particles inward so the shop goggle should be reasonably effective if the wearer stays away from coughing people.
