Ian OReilly was walking with his wife and three kids on a trail near Judes Pond in Kensington around 11 a.m. when the wild animal jumped out of the woods and grabbed the 2-year-old child by the jacket, cops said.
Thats when the dad went into protection mode, kicking the coyote before choking it, said Kensington Police Chief Scott Cain.
The dad was bitten in the arm and chest and is being treated for rabies as a precaution. The animal didnt break the toddlers skin thanks to his heavy-duty snowsuit.

Coyotes just started showing up this past year here in North Tampa. The local tree-huggers are telling us that we must learn to live with our new canine neighbors - that they are indigenous (even though, until this year, I had not heard a thing about coyotes in the 30+ years I've lived here).
So, they tell us to just bang pots and pans together when they come to close.
In the meantime, and in unrelated news, local pet owners keep posting messages about their sweet pet dogs and cats that seem to have mysteriously disappeared.

The husband’s name is Ian, a British name.
When I saw Kensington, I thought, “This can’t be the Kensington area of London!”

Outside Seattle. 2 weeks ago I was walking my dog (a 9lb Shih Tzu) and when I turned around, 2 full grown male Coyotes were tracking us about 50 feet back. I have a headlamp and shined it in the eyes of the more aggressive one, and he finally turned and left. This morning I walked out on the deck and there was a full grown bobcat in the neighbors yard watching me. When I take the dog out at night, I always prepare myself mentally for the prospect of a fight with nature.

Almost this exact scene occurs in a novel called The Revellers, by Louis Tracy, published 103 years ago.

Trap the coyotes,
knock on tree huggers door
toss cage with coyote and unlocked gate into the house.

That’s it. Thanks for the link.
The vid I have has more footage of a dutiful young nurse wiping foam off of the patient’s mouth with big wads of cotton while NOT wearing gloves. Things have changed since 1950.

If they have the body of the coyote why does the dad need a precautionary rabies vaccine?

Man kills coyote with bare hands after animal threatens child, police say 3 coyote-related incidents reported in same area 823 Shares WMUR Updated: 12:05 PM EST Jan 21, 2020 Cherise Leclerc News Anchor/Reporter WMUR Play Video Show Transcript Here is the story from the local ABC affiliate. WMUR KENSINGTON, N.H. A man killed a coyote with his bare hands Monday after the animal threatened his child on a hiking trail in Exeter, officials said. The attack was one of three coyote-related incidents reported in the area Monday. Ian O'Reilly said he, his wife and their three children were taking a walk on an Exeter trail when the animal came up and grabbed his 2-year-old son by the jacket, pulling the boy to the ground. O'Reilly and his wife managed to separate the coyote from their son. O'Reilly said he tried kicking it and getting it to run off, but it wouldn't. He was bitten on his chest and forearm but managed to get on top of the animal and cut off its air supply. His son wasn't bitten. "In the middle of the moment you're not really thinking or recording a whole lot," O'Reilly said. "It's really just instinct. The fact that when we tried to kick and push and get rid of him, it became clear that he was not disengaging." Earlier Monday, police warned the public of a coyote being spotted by a driver in Hampton Falls who reported the wild animal attacked their car Monday morning. About 20 minutes later, a coyote bit a Kensington woman and one of her dogs. Resident Pat Lee told police the animal tried to follow her into her Hemlock Road home and bit her as she tried to keep it out. Lee said she thought at first that the animal was someone's pet. "I realized this was a coyote, and I just started screaming at the top of my lungs to try to get him to stop and go away," Lee said. "It was very, very scary, but it could've been a lot worse." O'Reilly, Lee and two dogs have been given rabies shots, officials said. The coyote that was killed will be tested for rabies. Fish and Game officials said they are trying to determine whether the same animal was involved in all three incidents.
