ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD--No Spoiler Alert
Rotten Tomatoes ^ | 1/20/2020 | Nikos1121

I purchased, not rent, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood last night, and I've already watched it a second time, (I'm off on Monday's.) The movie is fantastic, and will be sure to please those who like witty and fun movies with actors that poke fun at themselves. I think it's up for best picture.

It will also please those of us here who were in High School and College in the 60s. In fact, there's a lot of truth in the movie, as it takes you back to those days. Think Charles Manson, spaghetti westerns, Bobby Kennedy, mediocrity in the TV industry, throwing garbage on the ground, hippies and polyester. I forgot how really stupid those times were, including the music.

Like other Trantino movies you have as many well known faces slipped in to make the scene interesting. Kurt Russel, Al Pacino, Bruce Dern and Luke Perry are all in here, but the stars are Brad Pitt and De Caprio, your eyes will by on these two the whole time. Margot Robbie plays Sharon Tate, better than Sharon Tate played herself.

In short, it's a very funny and entertaining movie with a lot going on.

Actually Lady Bird Johnson started that whole don’t litter campaign. It was her thing. Highway beautification. Unfortunately I’m old enough to remember when people would drive out into the country and toss trash. It seems so unthinkable but it was what happened.

[[Drinking the margharita from the blender, while he’s telling the Hippy to get the bleep out of here.]]

That to me just doesn’t even sound funny- and I’m sorry- but again- never liked his acting or presence in movies- He may make fun of himself, but His presence still says ‘decaprio’- not hte character he’s supposed to be portraying- I watched a few clips on youtube- and nope- to me he doesn’t pull off the characters- because of his decaprio persona- He never has pulled it off- not even in wolf of wallstreet in my opinion- his character just screams ‘I’m decarpio’- Just my opinion

1917 all the way for me.

Not only was it technically superb, but its theme might possibly help history-challenged Americans understand that modern times began with the Great War.

And in some places, like the Middle East, it hasn’t ended yet ...

Compared to other War Movies, I’d say it just ends.

That’s just how movies are made these days. Don’t forget these are White Dudes (although they did sneak a token black guy in a couple of scenes). We can’t have them looking too heroic.

Margot Robbie is gorgeous. That’s all I’m going to say about that. But if the movie has Leonard DiCrapio, I’ll wait until I can watch it for free.

You’re actually right he’s very one dimensional. Kinda like John Wayne or Gable. But i like that.

“Rick is too full of angst and drama.”

Don’t cry in front of the Mexicans, Rick!

The seven minutes of mayhem at the end was really brilliant. Tarantino’s foot fetish was funny and on full display.

“Dirty bare feet seems to be a message.”

Don’t read too much into that. Tarantino just has a foot fetish, he puts scenes in that feature women’s feet prominently in most of his movies. I suppose the feet are dirty in this one just because it’s the 60s and walking around barefoot was the fad.

Sure, but do you really want a haze of smog in your fairy tale version of the silver age of Hollywood? Some things you want to “edit out” for the cinema.

John and Gable i could take- i don’t mind stereotypes so much- but there are just some characters that I think just can’t pull off their characters-

Clint Eastwood was quite one dimensional- but he was born to his character- had a perfect screen presence for the character- (Eli Wallach- highly underrated actor was also great in westerns- but he was more versatile- great actor-)

Actor Montgomery Clift was another actor i just couldn’t buy as an actor- I don’t know what it was abotu him- he just struck me as an extra that the studios built up to promote him- I dunno can’t describe it- some people just dont’ cut it with me with their acting-

I will say though that decaprio does put himself into the part- and does a good job at portraying emotions I guess (But i always htoguht he overacted- especially when he does unhinged screaming- he sounds almost autistic to me at times- especially when he did the ‘what’s eating glibert grape’ movie- I’m not knocking autistic people- He just seemed to throw fits like they do when they get stressed- I dunno it was weird- he did it in the movie where he was in old time NY i think it was, battling the ‘street king’ can’t remember name of that movie-))- but again- they come across as decaprio emotions- it’s still him trying to be soemoen else too much for my liking-

‘Kinda like John Wayne or Gable. But i like that.’

their scripts were one dimensional...but on the rare occasions they got something better, they were both great; Wayne in ‘the Searchers’ and Gable in ‘It Happened One Night’...

One of the best movie soundtracks ever.

And as much as I despise DiCaprio’s politics, he was good in this.
