I read somewhere that because there is no proof of any High Crimes or Misdemeanors that perhaps Trump could appeal to the USSC because the impeachment was unconstitutional.

If Hunter testifies, he will plead the 5th. As will all the demokrap-witnesses called by the GOP or by POTUS’ legal team. That’s why Senator Schmuck-NY doesn’t care if Rand Paul’s “witness for witness” approach is adopted. The witnesses the demokraps call will have come, testified and left town before the GOP calls theirs.
While I am on the topic of witnesses, I used to like Bolton. Anyone who openly volunteers to be a witness in an impeachment like he is a candidate for office is an egomaniac, an attention-getter, not to be trusted, maybe worse. His emotions may have finally cracked his cool headedness.

Impeachment is not a criminal trial. The Judge (Roberts) can instruct the Jury (Senators) that they can assume that a 5th Amendment plea is an admission of guilt for the case at hand, just like civil court cases.
Once Hunter pleads the 5th, Trump has proven that there was corruption and he was justified in all of his actions. Joe’s candidacy for his party’s nomination is not a grant of immunity for his family. The DNC convention is July 13-16.
IMO ... I don’t believe the C.J. would instruct the Senators on how to interpret someone exercising his Constitutional Rights.
People will interpret his pleading the 5th based on whether they are for or against Trump. To expect to get blood out of a turnip... I wouldn’t expect Hunter to say a word.

The fact that they want to present new evidence shows that they went ahead and impeached him without substantial proof. Nancy even announced that they were going to impeach before the transcript of the call was released. Trump called their bluff and he will do it again during trial. Trump’s legal team is not about to roll over for that sorry lot House managers. All team Trump has to do is prove democRats Ukraine corruption.
The competition is fierce, and growing.
1. The Climate Change Hoax is infecting almost every area of the energy sector itself, judging by their advertising.
2. Every Dem nominee is promising at least one Trillion-dollar-per-year program, despite no budget item in US history ever reaching $1 Trillion (yet). They aren't doing it "for the American people", they are doing it to make ever-growing pots of money from which to skim.
3. The attacks on vast swaths the Constitution (2A, 10A, Electoral College, Free Speech, Free Exercise, every Right of the Accused is being shredded in the Impeachment scam, etc etc etc.)
FWIW - A lot (not all) of the Illegal Invaders at the ICE Detention Center where my S-I-L works are all in for POTUS Trump’s Impeachment.
They even get to watch the proceedings on TV.

It will, but maybe not how you think. Considering that the libs are about 100% involved in writing and publishing text books, I’m pretty sure the truth will not be known 25 years from now.
Judges do it every day in civil court...
Trump’s team will make the point even if Roberts does not.
If both occur it could mark a significant reversal in the development of our culture. If neither occur, the trend toward our nation becoming more like Seattle and San Francisco will likely continue. (Simply put, lib governments are lousy house-keepers.)
