Hank Azaria says he will no longer be voicing the controversial character Apu on The Simpsons. Azaria made the comment in an interview with Slashfilm at the Television Critics Associations Winter Press Tour following a panel for his IFC show Brockmire.
All we know there is I wont be doing the voice anymore, unless theres some way to transition it or something, Azaria told the publication. We all made the decision together We all agreed on it. We all feel like its the right thing and good about it.
The shows producer 20th Century Fox TV would not comment on Azarias remarks when reached by Deadline.
Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, a recurring character in the hit animated series, is an Indian immigrant proprietor who runs the Kwik-E-Mart, a popular convenience store in Springfield. The character has been controversial with accusations that the portrayal is a racist caricature.
In April 2018, Azaria told Stephen Colbert on Late Show, hes willing and happy to step aside as the voice of Apu on The Simpsons, or to help transition the character into something new, calling it the right thing to do, for me.
Stay tuned.
Hey! Easy on Slow Joe. Yeah, he’s a racist, yeah he and his family are corrupt as all get out, but he promises to do more push-ups to prove his manhood...
And get rid of this guy, too.
Oh, wait. I forgot that its okay to make fun of white men. Never mind.
Coward.
He should tell the weenie little snow flakes to F*** off.
Another causality of the SJW outrage mob.

yup
I cant even tell you the last time they even had the character speak on the show...
Stupid...
A good character killed by stupidity
Yes, let’s crush the ugly stereotype that Indian immigrants tend to embrace America’s entrepreneurial spirit and thrive in capitalism. In case Mr. Azaria hasn’t noticed, Simpsons characters are frozen in time. They don’t really evolve. You know, like neither Bart nor Lisa have grown up? And Maggie has been a baby for 32 years now? Hello?
There are a thousand people who could do Apu’s voice and 99% of viewers wouldn’t even notice. But instead, the show will likely either cave or delete his character.
Black actors voice white characters and no one complains.
Either apply the libtardity equally or eliminate it. They have to live it or it better damn well be dropped.
Now let Bart be voiced by a male voiceover actor.
Or are we just targeting white male actors today?
The character Bobby on King of the Hill is was voiced by Pamela Adlon.
When can we be expecting an apology from her on this travesty?
So they get rid of a minority character that accurately represents many minorities.
What a crock.
You should hear the goofy American accented character they mock in India ...
I have no idea who does those voice overs.
I’ve never watched a full episode of The Simpsons to this day. I’m sort of out of the loop.
But he has zero problem with Cletus the Slack Based Yokel.
That’s a pretty offensive stereotype too.
remember,... get woke go broke.
"The searing kiss of hot lead. How I've missed you."
Actually Apu is one of the smarter residents of Springfield.
I just go to the Mighty T Mart in my neighborhood to buy lottery tickets. Apu double and his wife run the place. I know they are illegal as hell, but I leave them alone. They work in the store 20 hours a day.
I'm not Indian, but I play one at my "torture the telemarketer" job.
