Southside Johnny did a pretty good rendition of that song too.

A truly bittersweet story behind the song. And René was (as is) a real person...

It’s actually “Left Banke”.

RIP, in any event.

Nice little one hit wonder came out around the time of my HS senior prom.

Remember it played wherever we went that weekend. RIP

Oh my gosh. Walk Away Renee is about my favorite tune from that time. The production is a little primitive but it’s gorgeous anyway.

71? I was surprised - I thought he’d be so much older.

Still reeling here from the loss of Peart so of course news of Caro has brought me to tears.

I’m from that time, and I remember the song well. Everyone and everything in that world is quickly passing.

Songs like this remind me of how fortunate I was to be alive in the ‘60s.

The Left Banke (it has an "e"on the ende). Mike Brown, who died in the past few years, met another bandmember's girlfriend -- her name was Renee, and she wa a ballerina -- and wrote "Walk Away Renee", "Pretty Ballerina", and "She May Call You Up Tonight" as a result of the encounter.

Who was the harpsichord soloist in that number? Don Randi?

I think he was 17 when he sang on “Walk Away Renee.” A beautiful song. R.I.P.

I once knew a girl named Renee from Caro, Michigan.

Strange coincidence.

Steve sang 'Walk Away Renee' when he was 16 years old.

Here's another (unexpected) 16 year old singer.
