i ran across this awhile back, and it was so well put that i had to save it.
Indeed, the real-life Jack Benny identified with Jews in his life and in his jokes, letting it be known that his favorite drink was Mogen Dovid on the rocks. According to his biographers, Irving A. Fein and Milt Josefsberg, Benny was never ashamed or self-conscious about being Jewish. And he tried in every way to reflect well on the Jewish image, for in Talmudic teachings, unworthy behavior is a bad reflection on God and Torah and on ones parents and teachers.
My favorite comedian of old. He could do more with that “slow take” of his than most comics could do with 20 minutes of material.
Thanks for posting! The funniest show of his I ever saw was called Musicale. A young actor portrays Jack as a child, who is shown as cheap even at a young age. Benny himself played his own father. The kid had Jacks mannerisms down perfectly!
I think Jack Benny was the greatest comedian of all time!

I really enjoyed that...thanks for posting it!
Different time, for sure...:)
Jayne Mansfield was a Satanist if I remember correctly.
Her personal life was a mess, even by Hollywood standards. She also had an interest in the supernatural. A year or so before her death she became acquainted with the well known huckster Anton Levay. How far that acquaintance went is still hotly debated. Levay (not exactly a reliable source for anything) claimed she was a Satanist and member of his cult. Most of her friends said Levay was a liar and while she may have attended something once or twice out of curiosity, that it went no further.
I don’t think she was a Christian in any sense most FReepers would acknowledge, but beyond that I doubt anyone really knows. Kyrie eleison.
As funny as his tv show was, his radio show was even funnier. (Many of the radio scripts were used as episodes for his tv show)
Here are all his radio episodes:
