Same-sex marriage is legally recognized in Northern Ireland from today.
Following a legal change last autumn, same-sex couples can now register to marry and the first ceremonies will take place next month. Those who are already married will have their marriage legally recognized in Northern Ireland.
Heterosexual couples will also be able to enter into civil partnerships from today.
But same sex couples in a civil partnership will not yet be able to convert it to a marriage in the province the Northern Ireland Office is set to begin a consultation on the matter later this year.
The status of same sex marriage and of abortion in Northern Ireland has long lagged behind the rest of the UK. And when the Stormont power sharing assembly collapsed three year ago, marriage equality campaigners turned their focus to Westminster. [ ]
In November 2015, a vote on the issue in the devolved assembly resulted in a numerical majority in favour of same-sex marriage for the first time. However, the DUP blocked a change in the law by using a veto known as the Petition of Concern.

at least now a lot of really recessive genes will be stopped in their tracks.
There just is no such thing as marriage of same sex partners. Period.
Too late for the House of Windsor...................
You can legalize anything. That doesn’t magically make it either moral or ethical.
Ok good, that’s it right? They will be satisfied no more demands, right?
So now the old Michael Fitzpatrick and Patrick Fitzmichael joke can come true.
Used to be proud of my Irish lineage.
No more.
Invest in Irish kilts...
I used to change that to Roy Fitzgerald and Gerald Fitzroy, mainly because Rock Hudson used to go by (and sometimes sign his name as, at bathhouses) Roy Fitzgerald, from his stepfather whom he disliked (his birth name was Roy Scherer).
My ancestors must be rolling over. Sad.
I wonder something- IF there were a way to determine if a child would be born gay if parents could elect to abort that child? I’ll bet the left would scream bloody hell if that were possible- claiming it were discrimination- but discrimination against what exactly? Since in their minds, an unborn isn’t a person yet- who would be discriminated against exactly using their sick warped definition of life?
They argue that down syndrome unborn humans can be aborted, and even encourage it- claiming the unborn human isn’t a human ‘yet’, and it should be the ‘parent’s choice’ or the ‘woman’s choice’
Would they be so accepting of abortion IF parents could find out their unborn was going to be gay and decided to abort the unborn human?
History will record the immoral madness of the early 21st Century. Be glad to be one of the normal ones not embracing these perverse twists on Gods original and immutable designs.
And the people will justify yet another abhorrent behavior as acceptable just because it is legal.
THAT is an exceptional question! A real catch 22 for pro-choicers. Excellent!
The rational answer is, of course: If abortion as birth control is ok, then the reason for aborting matters not. Whether the reason is inconvenience, birth defect, financial strife, sex or sexual orientation of the fetus...it matters not.
As with pretty much all issues with progressives, the negative unintended consequences almost always hurt themselves.
Bad things happen when governments pretend things to be true that aren’t true: witch hunts, slavery, holocaust, abortion, homosexual “marriage”.
Yup- and another question would be ‘Would it be alright for advocacy groups to go around persuading women to abort all children who might turn out gay’? Or would they be arrested for ‘hate speech’?
Because advocacy groups for abortion try to persuade women to abort down syndrome kids, and noone thinks that is hate speech
Bad things happen when governments pretend things to be true that arent true: witch hunts, slavery, holocaust, abortion, homosexual marriage.
Hate crimes, equal outcomes, transsexual explosion, never-ending black suffrage, sexual confusion, suicides...
Once again, the most Catholic political states are the most susceptible to this perversion. Witness Massachusetts.
