The Flu Season May Yet Turn Ugly, C.D.C. Warns
NY Times ^ | January 7, 2020 | Donald G. McNeil Jr.

The United States may be headed into a bad flu season, according to figures recently released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

As of the last week of December, “widespread” flu activity was reported by health departments in 46 states. More ominously, a second measure — the percentage of patients with flu symptoms visiting medical clinics — shot up almost to the peak reached at the height of the 2017-18 flu season, which was the most severe in a decade.

"May" for me it turned ugly as I got sick during the weekend before Christmas and was sick all that week ending up with a sinus infection.

This year’s flu vaccine may not be particularly effective against the strain of the virus now widespread in the United States, experts said.

Don't need some expert to tell me that as I got the shot. Thanks for nothing.

It seems that every story I have read about at least the last 20 years, talks about how “last years flu vax wasn’t particularly effective against the flu strains that year.”

They have sucked very hard ‘guessing’ what flus we will have the next year. Very hard. Risk is higher than the perceived reward.

My date tonight cancelled claiming she had to fill in for someone else with the flu.

And two online dataing site scammers have since turned down meeting me tonight.

So yeah, it’s getting ugly out there.

It’s bad in southern maryland, the local walgreens has baskets and baskets of prescriptions laying on the floor because the racks are full. I’m talking a few hundred white bags in baskets that they can’t fit on the racks. Never seen a more messed up jacked up frazzled pharmacy... never

Wasn’t it a foregone conclusion that this year’s flu season was going to be a bear?

The cure: Rebel Yell Whiskey

The good news: You’ll survive the flu.

The bad news: You might look like Keith Richards after imbibing.

Yup, just like every year's flu season.

Along with every year's hurricane season.

And every year's winter weather.

Blackberry brandy.

The stuff is GREAT when you are under the weather.

I never was able to figure out, though, whether it actually did anything to make you feel better, or you just didn’t care.

We need the picture of the Not this $*&^ again guy with the coffee cup.

Every year, 30,000 people die of the flu.

Real records are hard to find but I do recall one recent year, it closer to 300 people or something more statistically insignificant compared to all the fear mongering.

For the 57th year in a row, I will regret skipping my flu shot.

I’m sure they are hoping. I mean I’m sure that helps their job preservation. Job and Family Services they get rewarded for handing out more stuff not less. There aren’t any raises when they get people off the welfare rolls.

This years office bug was a stomach flu with severe back pain.

Nope. I wouldn't worry. It's probably just lung cancer.

There’s a chest thing going around my area. Starts with sore throat and fever, then moves into your chest as a hacking cough that lingers. I don’t know if it’s anything out of the ordinary or just that I’m extra aware because I happened to catch it this year.

That's the one I had right after Christmas. Got it from my brother's grandkids. Hacking and sniffling all though New Years. But the fever got me down, bigley. Still coughing but the cows don't seem to mind
