Margo Kaplan is not very popular today. In the Monday edition of the New York Times, the Rutgers-Camden law professor, an NYU and Harvard graduate, takes to the op-ed pages to argue that weve got it all wrong when it comes to pedophilia. She writes that pedophiles dont necessarily turn out to be child molesters and that pedophilia is not a choice, i.e. a pedophile might be born that way. We reached her in her office in Camden to discuss.
pedophilia-not-a-crime-rutgers-margo-kaplanYou really lit up the comments section of the op-ed page today. Yes, but I have to be honest. I am getting more emails of support than I ever expected. Im shocked. I expected to get maybe 95% negative emails, but Ive gotten so many positive ones. The online comments, though, are pretty uniformly negative, and a lot of people havent even read the article.

“Im going to direct my comments to men only because women are never pedophiles-”
I’m assuming that you forgot the sarcasm tag? While most pedophiles are men, there are women who are pedophiles as well.
As a matter of law and public policy we don't (nor should we) recognize "thought crime". We criminalize and prosecute unlawful behavior, not thoughts.
What’s the excuse for turning out to be a lib college prof?
See #23 for a big clue ...
Next in line for the slippery slope slalom... Yep, when we got gay marriage, they said it was crazy to mean that we would get tranny rights. When we got tranny rights, they said it was crazy that we were warning of pedophilia. Now after a decade or so of this garbage, with support of the MSM, sex with children will be a civil right. Thanks democrats and their billionaire perverts!
The devils of Islam prey on little boys, too. The satanic sickness that is Islam should not be given a pass on any of their aberrant behaviors.
Every. Single. Time.
I agree with what youve written, however the state does punish thoughts. Hate crimes are an example.
We only want to be left alone with civil unions...
We only want marijuana legalized for medical use for needlessly suffering people...
Pedophilia is perfectly natural, but simply not legal right now...

Few would argue with that. The bigger question is why would she write this, especially given that barring some extreme medical procedure that no one is going to volunteer for, one’s sexual desire is always going to be there. And in all likelihood, acted on.
Wow, all those people saying pedophiles are the next to have their perverted ways normalized were(predictably) sot on.
This is one more reason why homosexual acts should have always remained illegal and should become illegal again.
Spot on ... darn typos
“We need to prevent pedophiles from sexually offending and to do that, we need to refocus on early intervention, treatment and prevention.” The secular humanist dead soul like this woman will never see the true source of this aberrant behavior pattern. That’s why they believe ‘society’ can fix the problem with ‘behavior modification’, leaving the deadness of the soul to fester the disease throughout life.
And for those asking ‘so what is the solution’, here’s the cure. Allow God back into our homes and schools, teaching self control because we are each responsible for our actions BEFORE GOD our Creator. We have removed the taboo structure of healthy society and allowed a satanic ‘I’m okay, you’re okay secular rot to take hold.
It’s a new world. See a child molester starting in on a child, call 911; get put on hold; wait. Maybe it’ll end soon.
Typical tactic of the Left. Everything is in stages. The path to acceptance starts slow, to get people to think differently. The vast majority of pedophiles were abused as children. But if the claim is that pedophiles are born that way, like homsexuals and trans insist that they are, then acceptance is not far away. Along with more children being abused.
I was born to defraud millions from banks...and private individuals. I guess that makes it OK.
Most who have been downrange to Afghanistan have seen it, per my nephew. And they were told to look the other way as policy.
Yes,I've made a mistake or two here on FR ;-)
