A Superior Court judge in San Diego tentatively awarded nearly $13 million to almost two dozen young women on Thursday, ruling that they had been tricked into performing in pornographic videos that derailed and uprooted their lives and led several to become suicidal.
The ruling capped an unusual 99-day civil trial that exposed the bait-and-switch tactics and false promises deployed as part of a scheme to induce young women, who would not otherwise consider filming pornography, to fly to San Diego and shoot a pornographic video.

Judge Enright found that the women had been lured with Craiglist ads that offered to pay them around $5,000 for photos or video shoots. The ads did not indicate that any nudity or pornography would be involved.
Wanted, one ad read, beautiful college type preppy girls, for video and photo shoots.
The women who responded to the ads said they were directed to innocuous websites, with pictures of clothed women, that asked for their contact information and photographs.
The ads turned out to be from the producers of GirlsDoPorn, who were seeking women to make so-called amateur pornography, which often features fresh-faced actresses paired with seasoned male performers.
Once a newly recruited woman had flown to San Diego, she found herself alone in a hotel room with two men about to shoot a pornographic video, Judge Enright wrote.
At this point, the producers had the women sign documents containing dense and ambiguous legalese, which they falsely described as guarantees that their videos would be distributed only on DVD outside of the United States and would never be published online, Judge Enright wrote.
Defendants rush and pressure the woman to sign the documents quickly without reading them and engage in other deceptive, coercive and threatening behavior to secure their signatures, Judge Enright wrote...

“Men lure college girls who have never participated in porn, and likely never would have, through innocuous clothed modeling sites advertised on craigslist.”
A girl responds to an ad, is offered money to do porn.
She takes the deal and does the shoot.
Then complains she didn’t remain anonymous?
How completely disingenuous.
And stupid.
They’ve already been paid and are due no more.
Theres the old saying: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. A woman needs to do her homework before signing up for anything.
And if its legitimate, the opportunity will still be there tomorrow. Never be rushed or stampeded into making a hasty decision. Sleep on it:
Actress/Model: “You want me to do what?! What kind of girl do you think I am?”
Producer/Director: “Well, you’re here now, still here now and know what we expect from you. Thus we both know what “kind of girl” you are, now we’re just negotiating price.”
Sad, unfortunate and even tragic, but still true.
Legitimate acting isnt easy to break into. There are beautiful women who can act.
But beautiful women with chemistry....
I remember this story. If they didn't agree to the shoot (and surely, some didn't), they'd have to pay their own way back to whatever town they flew in from.
In a free market, both sides get something out of the transaction. Its not exploitation as long as everyone understands the terms and know what theyll get out of the deal.
What did they expect? Vacation time, parental leave, annual raises, full benefits?
“Tricked” into getting filmed having sex with a stranger?
Come on...give me a break. I could probably count all the late teen girls in the country who HAVEN’T seen porn on my fingers and toes. Where, exactly, do the girls think these porn films come from?
Maybe they are liberals who also think electricity comes out of the wall and gasoline comes out of the pump.
Deception, fraud, coercion and duress dont work.
Most people like to do deals and if its a fair one, theyre happy. Porn does have its dark side like any business.
I assume most people who work in it are happy with their work and the compensation theyre paid for it.
It seems the issue here is it went beyond limited release
That could have been avoided by NOT agreeing in the first place TO HAVE SEX WITH STRANGERS FOR MONEY
I am sympathetic to women abused by porn which they volunteer for but still its unseemly even grotesque frankly BBC gang ravages and whatnot which seems the norm these days way beyond grandpas grainy 8mm of my youth
But these girls were not forced in the first place
The funny thing about porn today is that much of it is directed and produced by women who see the money in it
Or its women self producing in their own homes or hotel rooms for videos and streaming in real time
And contrary to conventional wisdom of butterflies and chocolates women make very rough porn today
Pure Taboo which is a new genre acting out nasty fantasies most here would get the vapors over is made by women...very hardcore male dominant porn
I think many women who like porn like this sort of porn or women who make porn think they do
Porn when I was a kid was in a neighbors dads bottom dresser drawer....black and white photos and pasty women with bangs
They were the lone catholic Italian family in a sea of southern angry saxons
It was tame tame by todays mores
I dont think porn will ever go away
Agreed, but a person needs to recognize that fact prior to boarding a plane with a one-way ticket. It’s a recipe for disaster when they find out they were lied to. No money, no job, no hotel/apartment, no food and no transport back home when it doesn’t work out.
More importantly, since Harvey Weinstein’s fall from grace, any woman, talented or not, that travels to LA / Hollywood on a wing and a prayer needs to do some deep soul searching before committing to such an adventure. Otherwise they end up in a class action lawsuit like this one.
Which is why GirlsDoPorn just lost a $13 million dollar lawsuit (with criminal charges still pending) while countless other "Professional Amateur" porn sites have not.
In Hollywood, it takes a long time and a lot of hard work to achieve stardom and fame.
Just be prepared to have a day job while pursuing a very expensive dream.
How about no morality?
Moral of the tale is be above board and completely honest with prospective employees about what you do, what you expect them to do and what youll pay them.
If you dont, you could lose the shirt off your back and perhaps even look at jail time.
Thats what happened to GirlsDoPorn and I dont shed tears for them.
I’ve requested this post be pulled.
They are victims of our society! (spit)
Stupid is, as stupid does.
Reminds me of the old joke:
Guy: Will you have sex with me for 1,000,000 dollars?
Gal: Sure!
Guy: How about sex in exchange for $20.00?
Gal: What kind of girl do you think I am?
Guy: We’ve already established that. Now we are just haggling over the price.
