Physicist pursues life-long dream of time travel
UnExplained Mysteires ^ | 01/04/2020

During a recent interview with CNN, Mallett, who is a respected physics professor, claimed that he had written a scientific equation that could serve as the basis for time travel - a concept that he became obsessed with as a young boy after reading The Time Machine by author H.G. Wells.

It's a goal that he has been pursuing for most of his life and although the 74-year-old admits that he is unlikely to see time travel became a reality during his lifetime, there's a chance that his efforts will have contributed in no small part to the creation of a working time machine in the future.

Back in 2018 we reported that Mallett had put together a prototype device designed to demonstrate some of the principles involved in his time travel concept.

The device features a ring of lasers and the idea is to 'twist' the space inside the ring. According to Mallett, because time and space are intricately linked, warping one should also warp the other.

"If space is being twisted strongly enough, this linear timeline is going to be twisted into a loop. If time all of a sudden is twisted into a loop that allows us the possibility of travelling into the past," he said

I would only work on time travel if an older me came back and told me it was possible and how it works. Otherwise I’m just going to assume it doesn’t work.

But if you don’t work on it, how could you come back to tell yourself that it works? ;-)

Everyone knows by now that you need a flux capacitor to make it work

Time has a magnitude but no direction, so it’s a scalar. You can slow it down but you can’t make it go backwards. That’s basic Relativity.

He’s more than a hundred years too late. Einstein’s Theory of Relativity showed that time travel is possible.

A few of Al’s key points, for anyone who is interested:

1. Time travel is possible, but into the future only.
2. All the time traveller need do is move. And the faster you move, the more you travel into the future.
3. Significant time travel only occurs when the object moves close to the speed of light.

This has all been verified experimentally. Atomic clocks were placed on fast jets. The jets then crossed vast distances. The clocks behaved just as Einstein’s equations predicted they would.

You time travel every time you hop in your car to go to the store. It’s basic relativity. That’s why GPS satellites have to have a time-correction of 45 micro-seconds/day. Time travel is easy: just go fast or hang out near a strong gravitational field. You can slow and speed up your time relative to everything else. Problem is, you can’t make it go backwards.

Thanks BenLurkin. Theoretical physicists should be required to continue to work their way through college.

If you can travel in time, “during your lifetime” becomes irrelevant. Someone could pop back and grab him.
