Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, on Friday introduced a resolution to block President Trump from further escalating hostilities with Iran.
The resolution is privileged, which means Republicans cannot block it from reaching the floor, and comes the day after the surprise drone strike that killed Iraninan Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the leader of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corpss elite Quds Force.
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has vowed forceful revenge against the U.S., and the Pentagon announced Friday that it will send 3,000 additional troops to the Middle East.
Kaines resolution requires that any hostilities with Iran must be explicitly authorized by a congressional declaration of war or a specific authorization for the use of military force, though it does not prevent the United States from defending itself from imminent attack, according to a summary of the measure released by his office.
For years Ive been deeply concerned about President Trump stumbling into a war with Iran. Were now at a boiling point and Congress must step in before Trump puts even more of our troops in harms way, Kaine, the 2016 Democratic vice presidential nominee, said in a statement.

Can Timmy introduce a resolution to unblock those articles of impeachment? That would be really impressive.
Timmy Cain (Yes i know i spelled his last name wrong- it was intentional and more fitting)- doin everything he can to protect terrorists- With brothers like Timmy, who needs enemies?
What a putz
The democrat wing of the CPUSA
He is in line with the belief that Congress should have passed a resolution that forbade President F D Roosevelt from responding to the Japanese aerial exercise over Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, 1941.
What makes Quds elite? Who have they thouroughly destroyed? Elite my ass. They are cowardly terrorists. There is nothing elite about them.
Democrats throwing up the white flag already? If Trump had bombed Israel they would be ecstatic. But no, Trump bombed Islamic terrorists so they’re upset.
It doesn’t surprise me that Kaine would stick up for Iran. He has always looked like a circus freak to me.
This idiot wants to force Democrats to go on record as supporting Iran over the US? TDS has reached a new low. Trump must be wondering how can he be this lucky to be opposed by such a ship of fools.
Amazing how the Dems and their media shills don't think people will notice the manufactured talking point blurbs they put out like this one. You would think they would be smart enough to change it up a bit. Almost every major media outlet has used this line since the first airstrikes a couple days ago. Just a coincidence, I'm sure...
Look forward to Rush playing the montage.
Doesn’t that mean kaine is giving Iran a license to kill Americans?
Only if you look at it for it’s true meaning.
This is like surrendering to Japan after Pearl Harbor.
It isnt going to pass the Senate. Lets say it does and makes it through the House, it will surely face a presidential veto.
Its going nowhere.
Maybe (if) they come back maybe they will have a little more understanding about killing the enemy before it kills you.
This Iranian in IRAQ is a declared, known terrorist.
This declared, known Iranian terrorist is in IRAQ right after his militant followers attacked the American embassy in Baghdad, IRAQ. (they even spelled it out (for the idiots in the crowd)...They scrawled No to America! and Soleimani is my commander on the embassy walls)
And this dumb ass () in Congress is pulling this STUNT?!
This guy does know that Iran and Iraq aren't the same place, right?
Who woke this idiot up. No problem aiding our enemy
Can he also submit a resolution preventing Iran from starting a war with us? The reality is that Iran has been at war with the US since 1979.
Try him for treason and have him hanged.
