(CNN) — The Selective Service website crashed Friday because of "the spread of misinformation," the agency tweeted.
The website's crash came hours after the announcement that the head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards' Quds Force, Qasem Soleimani, was killed by a US airstrike ordered by President Donald Trump. The hashtag #WorldWarIII was one of the top trends on Twitter Friday.

If people want war, they need to be honest about the costs. And also, that spending trillions on wars on the other side of the world is a strange way of putting “America First.”

Well, first of all wars cost money and Iran doesn’t have any. Second, wars require support from the governed. Iran doesn’t have that either.
We are not going to attack Iran proper aside from some navy engagements and missile attacks.
They are not coming here either.

Imagine that one of their moves will be to trash Israel. How do you think that is going to go over?

And if the site WAS actually overwhelmed, I’d assume it was a DDOS attack by enemies of the state, rather than panicked snowflakes worried about whether they had to report to Basic Training on Monday.
Another legacy of the worthless Dubya Administration was to leave Americans with the idea that nation building is a requirement when you choose to whack someone who needs it.

I would volunteer to go. However, even being reasonably fit...being mid 50s means a no-go. Heck, I *did* volunteer to go back in 2004 as a private contractor for some very specific work and was on the go list. Did not deploy due to circumstances beyond my control.

I was NG During the cold war era but never went to war, although as a missionary I worked in a war zone.
My son in law served in both Gulf wars. His son is in the Navy.
Anyone with military expertise knows that the wars of the future will not need large numbers of people for cannon fodder, but people with certain skills. Calling for a draft is stupid since it will not draft the ones with needed skills.
“We NEED” to do this and that...
So glad we have a duly elected CIC right here on FR.
