I must admit, though, that the NFL rules seem a bit discombobulated.

The entire season is all about The Division.

"Here are The Division Standings!"

"Here is whose ahead in The Division!"

And then, you win The Division, and the NFL says: "Well, you suck. Here's a Wild Card for you."

If I ran the NFL, I would just have each team play a game against every other team in the Conference, then the four best teams make the playoffs. So everybody’s schedule is the same, the only issue is which games are home and which are away.

In soccer, it works perfectly, because each team plays all the other teams home and away. But obviously you can’t have a 30 game season in the NFL.

Since 1960 Bills & Vikes 10 division wins to 1 for the Lions.

Vikes playoff wins/losses 20/29, Bills 14/16, Lions 1/12.

Pretty stunning. I had to look thrice to believe that Impy could pull off the last second victory and move to the top spot (maybe y'all should look a couple times too). I missed the chart posting last week so this one contains both weeks 16 and 17.

Impy, I didn't see your total for zzeeman in the week 17 standings so I counted myself and got to 5 wins. Let me know if I'm wrong there.

Lessons learned for me: Never pick the Chargers, Titans or Texans.

So, the Eagles won the NFC East Division, but they are wild card team. Strange. I guess that is because of their record.

The Eagles won their division yes. But with a 9 - 7 record they were the worst record-wise of the division winners. Thus they have to play this weekend (they do not get a bye). They do however get to play at home, versus the wild card Seahawks.

We don’t need another “Unitas as a Charger” fiasco. I hope if Brady is done in NE that he does retire.

No team builds for the future around a 42-year-old quarterback. Brady isn't going anywhere.

Win the division and you're in the playoffs. No matter your record - Seattle made it one year at 7-9. And won a playoff game.

The thing is, if you tell Brady he can’t do something, he’ll just say, “Watch Me!”

I think in his mind, he still thinks he could win with another team.

The concern with Brady is his elbow, I don’t know if that’s going to get any better with time. I think he’s much more hurt than he’s letting on.
