Bebop and West Coast jazz great Jack Sheldon has died at age 88. The news was first reported via a Facebook post by his biographer and documentarian, Doug McIntyre, in which he shared an announcement from Cynthia Jimenez (the sister of Sheldons longtime manager, Dianne Jimenez) stating that the trumpeter, singer, and actor had passed away of undisclosed causes on Dec. 27. Dianne confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday morning.
While the charismatic and hilarious Sheldon boasted an impressive résumé that included serving as the music director and sidekick on The Merv Griffin Show for 18 years; releasing 23 albums as a bandleader between 1955 and 2007; heading his own 17-piece orchestra; working with everyone from Art Pepper, Gerry Mulligan, Benny Goodman, and Frank Sinatra to the Monkees and Tom Waits; and acting in various movies and TV shows, he is also lovingly remembered as the affable, lackadaisical crooner from the Schoolhouse Rock! cartoons of the 1970s, including "Conjunction Junction" and "I'm Just a Bill.

He was a great entertainer. I think he was on a few Dragnets.
I’m just a bill. Talk about getting vetoed.
Until today, I’d not heard of Jack Sheldon, but a brief summary of his work experience is very impressive.
His life would make a good movie.
Get someone like Michael Buble to play him.
“..,You mean, after all that, the President can _still_ say no?”
“Yes. That’s called a Veto! And then I have to go back to Congress and the whole process starts over again!”
“Oh, no!”
“Oh, yeah!!! ...And maybe someday I’ll be a law. Oh, I how I hope and pray that he will but today I am still just a bill...”
“Congratulations, Bill! The President signed you into Law!”
“Alright!”
“OH, YEAH!!!”
Dang. For a second I thought it was Jack Black from the School of Rock that kicked the bucket.
Aw man!
No one would notice

Adam 12 as well.
Back when they still taught things in school too........
Extraordinary West coast jazz and studio trumpet player. I feel privileged to have seen him perform in person. RIP, Jack.
Yes, but only the episodes from 1967-70. I haven’t seen the first run episodes from 1951-59 broadcast on TV at all. Maybe they had them on TV Land awhile ago but I don’t remember.
The B&W ones are on YouTube a lot.
Sometimes I binge listen to the radio version.
Ditto to Broadway Is My Beat.
RIP.
