Appearing on CNN with Anderson Cooper, singer Linda Ronstadt compared President Trump to Hitler and says she sees “great parallels” between the United States now and the Weimar Republic in Germany.
Anderson Cooper:
I’ve read that you have read a lot about the Weimar Republic in Germany, and you sort of see parallels between then and now.
Linda Ronstadt:
Great parallels. I mean the intelligentsia of Berlin and literati and all artists were just doing their thing, and as Hitler rose to power, there were a lot of chances to stop him, and they didn’t speak out. The industrial complex thought they could control him once they got him in office, and of course, he was not controllable.
By the time he got established, he put his own people in place and stacked the courts and did what he had to do to consolidate his power, and we got Hitler. He destroyed Germany, destroyed centuries of intellectual history, forward and backward. People like Beethoven, Goethe, and Thomas Mann became jokes. They became Nazi laughing stocks.

I think a lot of people would be surprised to hear comparisons between what happened then and now.

If you read the history, you won’t be surprised. It is exactly the same. You find a common enemy for everybody to hate. I was sure that Trump was going to get elected the day he announced. I said he’s going to—it is going to be like Hitler and the Mexicans are the new Jews. And sure enough, that is what he delivered.

Ronstadt’s idiocy does not surprise me. The sad thing is that Cooper let her sit there and make a fool out of herself (and him) on TV. He could as well have had on the History Channel “Aliens” guy as this has-been dipshit.
IIRC, she once dated Jerry Brown. Apparently she’s either completely brain damaged, or if she really believes what she said, she needs to spend some time at a Holocaust museum with survivors.
Her statement, and those of every useful idiot who compares ANY US president to Hitler, are so far beneath contempt, and prove themselves not just ignorant, but evil, because this is something with which they could easily educate themselves.
Funny thing though... While Hitler and his NAZI regime was incredibly evil, I guess they don’t think President Trump’s all THAT bad... If he is “so bad,” they’d be comparing him to Stalin or Mao. After all, they murdered far more people that Hitler. OTOH, they probably don’t think that Stalin or Mao were so bad, since the dems LOVE the Stalinist tactics, and since they were communists, they “meant well” while murdering 10s of millions of innocent victims.

I agree. Hatred and intolerance makes people ugly. I've seen too much of that for this observation to be anecdotal.
A year ago I moved into an over 55 community. Mostly nice people. But at gathering of residents I attended shortly after moving in, I found I was able to quickly identify the hard core Leftists. They had the perpetual scowls and just plain ugly facial features.
Over the months, I was able to confirm my first impressions of those nasty ladies. Always making trouble with the HOA board and even in social settings, they cannot resist making sure everybody is aware of their leftist credentials. Everything is political with them. If you mention what a nice day it is outside, they will find some way to tie it to global warming. If you mention high taxes, they will blame it on some failed Republican policy - even though the state we live in has been controlled by Democrats for decades. I refer to them as the Coven.
But as I said, there are nice people too. There is one woman in particular that my wife befriended. She is obese with health issues and it's hard for her to get around but she has the nicest face and personality. Turns out she's a big Trump supporter and a lifelong conservative. I was not surprised. Very nice and decent person who has a lot of tolerance and will do anything for you. She came over to our unit just before Christmas with a gift basket for us. Despite her troubles, she is so happy and fun to be around. Yet the "Coven" mostly shun her (and us). The "Coven" are so consumed with their hate that's it's written all over their faces, making them ugly people. On the inside as well as the outside.
